As a primary devotional this could never stand in place of daily readings from scripture. But in some important respects it is an invaluable supplement, and in others is the best thing of its kind I have come across. For the convinced believer these writings are packed with ideas that will provide support, challenge, questions -- anything else you can think of that is wholesome, that points you towards Jesus. But the point that makes me say that in some important respects it is the best thing of its kind is this. I don't know anything that is quite so full of potential for the unconvinced, for the enquirer who wishes to understand what it means to be a Christian, for the needy person who is seeking the consolation seen in those who know the Lord Jesus Christ. As always with Lewis, doctrine is in its proper place, preaching is proclamation rather than preaching at, difficult subjects are addressed with directness and compassion -- and always, things point towards the Lord Jesus Christ. Excellent
