The baby's mother died in childbirth and his father is the criminal being hunted by Thomas, the bounty hunter. The only person he can think of that he can trust to help care for the baby is Esther, who he had to leave five years earlier when he was a summer employee on her father's ranch. Esther was broken-hearted when he left but she won't let him know. He loves her too but doesn't think he's good enough for her. They both quickly fall for the baby. When the father gets involved, things get even more complicated.

This is a heartwarming story with a baby to draw two people together that have denied a past love for each other. This book takes place in 1888 and you can envision the struggles of that time through the picture that Erica paints with her words. The characters are identifiable and the story engaging.

GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Protect the BabyFebruary 1, 2017GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love a good historical Western story and this one fit the bill with an interesting twist. I cannot recall ever reading a story about a bounty hunter losing the escaped outlaw he has been chasing and ending up with the outlaws baby. Quite a strange but fascinating turn of events! The story has romance, suspense, action, and a strong faith message wrapped up together. Thomas Beaufort is not the kind of bounty hunter typically found in Westerns. They are often portrayed as being not much better than the outlaws they pursue. Thomas, on the other hand, was a good Christian man who had seen his share of hard times and kept working to prove his worth and to build a better life for himself. Upon suddenly being faced with a newborn baby and a mother who died in childbirth, he knew he had to give the baby a fighting chance to live and become someone in spite of who the father was. Setting aside his manhunt, he took the newborn baby to Esther Jensen whom he knew from five years earlier when he worked on her fathers ranch. Wondering if she would help him, he was unprepared for what he found when he arrived at the ranch. The story grows in excitement and intensity as it progresses. I recommend the book to all who love good historical Western romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
