I was terribly disappointed with this production. The story line is so off from the true Bible story that even if it was well done otherwise, it would be a terrible value. I'm really disappointed in Carmen. The woman who was cast as Ruth was about 45 years old or more, maybe even in her 50's. So ridiculous!!! She should be no older than 30, but probably most accurately in her 20s. She was supposed to be an attractive young woman, not a wrinkled old lady. The set was horrible, like a stage with cheap props. The acting was terrible. The storyline, with all of the added drama and stupid, unbelievable lines was unforgivable.
I love this story. Always have. Always will. But this version is so poorly acted and directed that it's really painful to watch. I bought the video and then gave it away because I knew I'd never be able to make it through this version again. The focus is very clearly on Naomi and not Ruth. I guess I missed the part in the Bible where she spent the whole chapter whining about how hard her life was. You'd be better served by watching the technicolor spectacle from the 60s, it's cheesy, but not nearly this cringeworthy. The cinematography is nice though even if the scenery gets chewed by the actors at every available opportunity.
I watched this movie several times with my son like we did with Esther and Daniel by the same company. We saw it on netflix and now we are buying it because we want to keep watching it whenever we want! We are leaving USA and we will not have netflix there to keep watching them. Happy to have a copy!
Unscriptural attempt. Very disappointed. The Book of Ruth is such a beautiful story of redemption, this falls quite short. It adds ideas contrary to scripture and degrades the Word by adding to it. Rev. 22:18. Typical Laodicea.
