Brandon R.5 Stars Out Of 5E.J. YoungJanuary 10, 2019Brandon R.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I just wanted to correct a previously made comment about Young being a dispensationalist. That comment is unfounded and he is even known for combating the dispensational approach to scripture. Young was a lingustic master being fluent in many modern and ancient languages. He advocates for single-authorship which I understand is also clear from the dead sea scrolls.
John4 Stars Out Of 5Commentary is perhaps more narrowly Reformed than I expectedNovember 3, 2017JohnQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This commentary is very good for the era in which it was written, yet perhaps not as considerate of eschatologies that do not see the Church as the chief heir and implementer of the divine blessings to the world foretold by Isaiah. Although I largely agree with that point of view, I think it better that a work of scholarship be less dogmatic in asserting it. Nevertheless, I appreciate the obvious knowledge of Dr. Young regarding the Hebrew language, as well as his applications of God's Word through Isaiah to us as believers in Christ; that if his coming has produced positive changes in our lives, then we need to bring this same salvation to others, both near or far.
Another thing I like about this commentary (besides the very fair price) is the three-volume format in paperback. Having the commentary thus partitioned facilitates the study of such a major prophet, since fewer chapters are covered by the individual volumes.
Ron3 Stars Out Of 5Much more than I neededSeptember 1, 2017RonQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3I expect the product was good for some more sophisticated in the Scriptures than I am, but I didn't need such depth. I gave the volumes to my church's library.
