Fascinating read of a little known historical event

I have so enjoyed every book in this series and this book is no exception. Suzanne Dietze has written about a very little known event and American history, the Children's Blizzard of 1888. I had read a non-fiction account of this event several years ago and found this book stayed true to form from some of the historical accounts. Suzanne's beautiful prose appealed to the senses, allowing the reader to experience the sensations of bitter cold, stinging of the ice/snow and the blindness caused by forceful winds driving the snow.

With this event as a backdrop to the plot, the hero/heroine are on a mission for the Secret Service to locate a dangerous counterfeiter. While there is a sweet romance, the underlying theme of forgiveness was the driving force of the story. I look forward to reading more stories by Dietz in the future.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

With a deep level of intrigue this story held a scheming secret that aroused my curiosity! I wanted to find out this secret, so I kept reading. I love reading stories from the past when life seemed so leisurely slow. Were things simpler or more complicated then? We have easier ways of getting things done this day and time. But I love the way things moved at a slower pace, and the author brought out great details of days long gone by, and of how the problems might have taken a little longer to figure out, but they were the same kind of problems we might face today. With today's technology though, we just seem to have an easier way to figure them out.

This story, THE BLIZZARD BRIDE, by Susanne Dietze, took place in Chicago. The date December 3, 1887. Abigail Bracey was having lunch, and seated across from Mr. Welch, he being the Assistant Operative of the Chicago District Office of the United States Secret Service, she was discussing a matter of great importance to her, her father, and what had happened, as quietly as possible. At their last talk, they knew where the assailant, the counterfeiter was. She found out that the assailant had started in New York, then moved around under different names, she just didn't know what he looked like, and where he might be now. He could be right under their noses. It would be like finding a needle in a hay stack. So Abby took the teaching job in Nebraska in order to help find the missing woman pretending to be a widow woman with a son. Even though they did not know what she looked like. As soon as she found out that she was assigned with, Dashiell Lassiter, to help her find them, Abby wanted to back out. Why?

Suddenly the story took a faster pace as Abby headed toward Nebraska, by train and her new job. As she got settled in, a blizzard abruptly appeared and brought on bigger problems with two children suddenly missing. Will Abby find the two missing children? The woman and child? Maybe her father's murderer? Or will this little adventure lead her into more trouble than she bargained for, and she may need help to get out of? A five star read that I highly recommend.

I always enjoy the books in this series and this was no exception. It is nice to see that there were women secret agents even years ago. I really like Dash and Abby. It was wonderful to see Abby really wanting to teach these children even while trying to learn who a certain child was. I loved learning about this horrible blizzard that occurred and how quickly the weather can change. Wonderful read. I received a copy of this book from Barbour for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
