Mama CallieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Harvest Festival is a Hit at my house!July 29, 2015Mama CallieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Book
The young bears, Brother, Sister, and Honey, are excited about Fall and all of the wonderful things that come with the season. Mama and Papa are excited too.
As the Bear family makes their way to Farmer and Mrs. Bens farm, they are reminded that even Mother Nature answers to a higher calling, God. And since God creates everything, including the seasons, the young bears realize that this season is also a season of thankfulness.
My Thoughts
As with any Berenstain Bears book there is a deeper meaning to the story. And since Mike Berenstain has created the newest books in this incredibly memorable series, I am so pleased to read them to my children.
The original stories written by his father and mother were always excellent books, but I am so tickled that the Living Lights series makes sure to incorporate God and a beautiful lesson into each book. It makes it so pleasing to have these books on my bookshelf because I know that they are based on great Biblical lessons. All wrapped up neat and tidy in a beautiful and colorful display, this book is sure to add depth and meaning to your childrens life.
This book, like all the other Berenstain Bears books, is a huge hit with my kids and I am blessed to be able to read wholesome and entertaining stories that I know my kids enjoy.
This book was given to me for free by BookLook Bloggers for my honest opinion and review. -
Rachel with EmpowerMoms.netAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5A++ we love Harvest time!July 24, 2015Rachel with EmpowerMoms.netAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I told my son that he would be getting an advanced copy of this book, he anxiously waited for the mail EVERY day to see if it came. It finally came yesterday and we read it right away!
I love that the son of Jan and Stan Berenstain-Mike-has continued to write Berenstain Bear stories! I especially love that they are more of a religious nature. This book, Harvest Festival, is part of the Living Lights Faith Story series.
This book talks about mother nature changing seasons to Fall and getting ready for harvest time. The Bear Family go to the Chapel in the Woods for a fall harvest festival spending time with friends and giving thanks for their blessings.
I love that there are activities and questions from "Brother and Sister" at the end of the book that parents can discuss and ask their kids.
We love love love this book!!

Fitzysmom4 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMOctober 2, 2015FitzysmomQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Around here the weather has started to have a crispness to it and the leaves are just beginning to hint at the colors to come. With these changes come the many fall festivals that we love to attend as a family.
Our family isn't the only one that loves a good harvest festival. The residents of Bear Country are eagerly anticipating the first ever Chapel in the Woods Harvest Festival at Farmer Ben's farm. We meet up with the Berenstain Bear family as Mama and Papa are readying their yard for a winter's rest. Papa mentions the Harvest Festival and the whole family decides to attend.
Along the way it is mentioned that "mother nature puts on her best clothes and dishes up her finest food." At first this little phrase made me cringe. But in the next pages the following exchange takes place between the Bear family:
"Would you say mother nature is putting on a good show for us?" said Brother, kicking up a drift of leaves.
"Well," said Mama, pointing to the heavens, "you know mother nature works for someone a bit higher up."
"Yes," agreed Papa. "And harvest time is about much more than just enjoying the season. It is a time to give thanks to God for all his blessings--for the food that grows in his good, rich earth and for the wonders of nature that he has created." (pg. 10)
I appreciated the follow-up that pointed out the true Creator. I'm still not thrilled with the "mother nature" reference but not enough to pass on the book.
Once the Bear family arrives at Farmer Ben's they participate in apple picking and pumpkin picking and then a hay ride. At the end of the day there is a feast for the entire community where Preacher Brown gives a wonderful prayer about celebrating the Festival of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops that have been sown.
This newest Berenstain Bears' book is a good one to add to your family library for fall reading.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review. -
countrygrl112New EnglandAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Love Berenstain Bears...But Not This BookJuly 29, 2015countrygrl112New EnglandAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0(I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)
The Berenstain Bears Harvest Festival follows the Bear family as they enjoy a beautiful fall day then go over to Farmer Bens for a harvest festival. This book sees the Bear family enjoying many autumn activities such as apple and pumpkin picking, a hay ride, jumping in leaves, and even a meal with friends. This book also touches some on thanking God for all His blessings.
What I liked: I, like my daughter, really enjoy the Berenstain Bear books, both the old ones and the new ones. I loved that we were able to read a book with familiar characters. I love how the illustrations are so much like the original series.
What I didnt like: There really wasnt a plot to this book. The Bear family was just doing fall activities without any real plot or lesson. My daughter could tell that too. She was a bit confused and thought that I didnt read all the book. I also really didnt like the couple references to mother nature. Im not that opposed to that phrase but I find it can be confusing for small children who are trying to learn about God.
Overall, I would say to skip this book. There are much better books in the Berestain Bears series, both the original and the new Living Lights series.
