But theres a reason Mattie has been keeping her history hidden, and shes not sure shes ready to reopen old wounds. Will dredging up the past change the way her children view her? Or her marriage to their father? And can she handle the pain of revisiting the memories that preceded the last few happy decades?
Matties story is one of grief and learning to love again. But like the best things preserved in a hope chest, it's a story of love and redemption born out of heartacheand it's past time to share it.

MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Sharing her painful past lossMay 22, 2017MaryAnnORAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This story is bookended by scenes in the present with Mattie Fisher and her grown daughters, but the main part of the novel tells the story of Mattie's first love and loss. Even if you haven't read the other books in this series, this story stands complete and grips the heart. The characters and their dilemmas seem so real. The title comes from the hope chest where Mattie's daughters discovered objects related to her secrets from the past. Now is finally the time for her to share her tale of sorrow and love. This book closes the Amish Heirloom series but could be used as an introduction to it also. The author uses lots of Pennsylvania Dutch words, which make their conversations realistic, and a glossary is provided in the front. This bittersweet tale leaves a warm feeling inside at its conclusion. I received the book from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

This is the fourth book in the Amish Heirloom series. The first three books are about Mattie Fisher's three daughters and their courtships and marriages. This book is how Mattie fell in love with her husband and almost left him. You do not need to read the first three books to so enjoy this story. This is more of a prequel to the others of the series. Everyone in this story learns mantra lessons. I laughed and cried throughout this book. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5a must read series!May 19, 2017lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The end. Those words are the hardest to read in this series as I have really enjoyed the characters and each ones tale woven with heart and faith. The first three books in the series are The Forgotten Recipe, The Courtship Basket and The Cherished Quilt. In each book, the focus is on a daughter of Leroy and Mattie Fisher with a snippet of the parents past that none of the daughters knows. For years Mattie has been able to keep the past in the past, but now she knows it is time to tell her story to her daughters as they are grown women.
I found Matties story really compelling, especially the fact that Leroy though tempted to give up on Mattie many times, pursued her with such a deep love. While he does give her time without any contact from him, what it shows Mattie is how much she does truly love Leroy. The tale shows too how grief has no time limit and much grace with patience needs to be extended to someone who is walking through the valley even though they wish they could be someplace else.
Amy Clipston writes stories of faith, heart and realistic characters which makes readers able to connect with them and keep reading for a long time. I am an eclectic reader for the most part and am always on the lookout for authors who love to tell a compelling story with heart and this author excels at doing just that and more! So, if you have never read her books before, this is a great series to begin with. Beware though as once you start youll never want to miss another book again!
Mrs ARS5 Stars Out Of 5My Favorite Amish storyMay 19, 2017Mrs ARSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Beloved Hope Chest by author Amy Clipston was a beautiful marriage of convenience story. This is a story that is full of heartbreak and grief, but more than that it is a story of unconditional love. Mattie Fisher has had her life turned upside down one too many times since the sudden death of her husband and now she finds herself married to her best friend Leroy Fisher, who has loved her from afar for so long. The road that they walk will not be an easy one as it is filled with unimaginable grief for this pair. This story is a tearjerker and I felt the author did a good job on describing the grief that this young wife and mother experienced.
This is the final story in the series An Amish Heirloom novels and it is the first one I have read. In fact it is the first book I have read by author Clipston and I am a new fan. I liked how this story started, as a mother begins to tell her three grown daughters of the love story between their parents and the rocky path it started on and how it almost was snuffed out. I really liked the character of Leroy. His perseverance to love his wife and to give her the patience and kindness she needed. He was such a patient and loving character. This story brought to my mind again, that except for going through our past circumstances we would not be who we are today with the blessings we now currently enjoy. This was a lovely story.
I received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.
wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A real tearjerker!May 16, 2017wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Oh what a tearjerker Amy has written this time. I had to make myself put it down at times, read LATE into the night so I could finish it today. This has been a very touching series. How many times have we blamed ourselves for things that happened but we know in our hearts we could not do anything different to change the outcome? Our lives are in God's hands, he will test us but he will see us through, if we can just hear him and follow where he leads us.
