Product Description

The Beginners Gospel Story Bible is a gospel-centered, Bible storybook for toddlers and preschoolers with fifty-two Bible stories retold in a simple and compelling way. Author Jared Kennedy traces through the stories of the Old and New Testament how God keeps his promises in surprising ways better than anyone could have ever thought or imagined! Each story highlights for young children Gods story of redemption through Jesus and the unexpected ways that God's grace and mercy are revealed throughout the Bible.

Children will hear the good news of God's love for them clearly expressed in ways that will speak to their young hearts. Each story ends with a question that parents and caregivers can use to further reinforce the story. Brightly colored illustrations highlight each story and add fun teaching elements of counting, opposites, patterns, and object recognition to keep the youngest child's attention.

I always feel bad for those who enter into the arena of writing a Children's Story Bible because they are immediately held up to the Jesus Storybook Bible. At least, that's what I always compare it to. When I look at Story Bibles for my children, I have a few things I consider. First of all, is it biblical. Does it stay true to what the Bible teaches? Second of all, is it Jesus centered. I don't want something that focuses on my children. I want it to show them our lives are about Jesus from Genesis to Revelation. Does it teach them who Jesus is? Lastly, what do my children think? I want to know if they are engaged with the book enough for it to become a family favorite. Needless to say, I'm a touch critic when it comes to Story Bibles.

One of the big reasons I chose this book is because the author is the Pastor of Families at Sojourn Community Church-Midtown in Louisville, KY. I respect that church a lot and know it is a very biblical church. For that reason, I knew this book was worth reading.

This is the perfect Story Bible for my 2 year old! It is exactly what the title says....Beginner. But just because it's a beginner Bible, doesn't mean that it strays from biblical teaching. There are lots of big, bright beautiful drawings that really capture the children's eyes. One thing that I noticed that was different from many other Story Bibles is that it does labels. For example, on a pair of glasses, it has full written under one and empty under another. On a different page, a tent is labeled left and the other tent on the opposite page is labeled right. The tent in the middle is labeled inside and outside. I loved that tiny detail that at first I thought was odd.

The font in the story is also a variety of sizes and colors. The thing I most love is that the question for the lesson is written in a full color cloud or circle or some kind of design that makes it stand out. Then the answer is written in a color and in bigger font. For example, one question is "How did Jesus feel about the tax collector?" The answer is "Jesus was happy. Jesus loved the tax collector. Jesus loves to rescue sinners like you and me."

I wish you could see the inside pages to this book. They are very well-down and are definitely what I'm looking for to use with my own children. There are 52 stories that span Genesis to Revelation, each with a question that can encourage a great family discussion, especially with slightly older kids, like 5-6 year olds.

52 chapters the tell the story of Jesus Christ, from Genesis to Revelation, with a conversational lilt to the storytelling, and thought provoking conversation starting questions that get the young person in your life to start thinking about the important things in life.

Illustrated in bright colors, and simple, but expressive pictures, this book brings to life the Gospel, from Creation to what is still yet to come. I loved that the chapters were concise. They took each event and connected it to the cross of Christ, and ended with a challenge question that was easy enough for a child to understand, yet deep and would be a great way to start a conversation.

I really liked how this book was very focused on helping children understand the Gospel, and what it truly means. This would be a fantastic book for a young person in your life, with it's bright colors and big print, it would even be perfect for new readers!

Overall, I was very impressed with this book, it takes the idea of a children's Bible storybook to the next level, and gets them thinking about the meaning of the story and what it means in light of the Gospel and Jesus Christ. Highly recommend!

This is a book my boys are requesting each night, and seem to be learning something new all the time. The stories are geared to the 3 to 7 year olds, but my ten and eight love them!

We begin with the table of contents, and find how easy it is to find the story you are looking for. Stories included are from both the New and Old Testaments, and total 52 in all.

We trace each of Gods Promises with these stories, and beautiful colorful illustrations are included for enhancement, and each one has a highlighted are to remember these truths.

I am so pleased to have this collection, and love that my boys are requesting it daily! There are a few quirky things, but the boys catch these and make them want more, so we pass over these things and talk about others.

I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Books, and was not required to give a positive review.

As a Bible college professor, I teach hermeneutics, equipping Christian leaders to rightly interpret and faithfully apply the Bible. As an associate pastor, I oversee the youth ministry of the church, equipping parents to disciple their children. At the heart of it all, my passion is to teach Christians how to see Christ in all of Scripture. In my college course, countless remarks reveal many Christians fail to see how all of Scripture points to the person and work of Christ. In the church, needed resources on this topic for parents is clear. With this knowledge, my drive has been to teach the youth at church how to read the Bible in such a way. My desire is to place in parents hands resources which will encourage both them and their children to see the storyline of Scripture as they read through it. Jared Kennedys The Beginners Gospel Story Bible sets forth this vision.

Many youth workers with a similar passion as the one stated above recommend to parents The Gospel Story Bible by Marty Machowski. While I would likewise commend to you the resource, the books target is 8-to-12-year olds. There is a need for a distinct resource addressing the same topic for children under 8. Out of such a concern, Jared Kennedy wrote The Beginners Gospel Story Bible. Written for 3-to-6-year-olds, Kennedy composes 52 storylines from Scripture to point young children to the grand story of the Bible which reaches its climax in Jesus Christ. Trish Mahoneys eye-catching illustrations fill the pages and will capture childrens attention. With each story examined, Kennedy considers who God is, highlights what biblical truth is presented, and asks a reinforcing questions. The specific biblical texts are mentioned at the beginning of each story so parents and children can open their Bibles and read the passages of Scripture the childrens book is summarizing.

The consistent theme through the book is the focus upon the character of God. The headings of the Old Testament section (Promises Made) and the New Testament section (Promises Kept) reiterate the point. In the featured Old Testament passages, Kennedy directs the child and parent to see how the text looks to Jesus, but some connections are more convincing than others. What was surprising is crucial Old Testament texts like 2 Samuel 7 were missing from Kennedys selection of texts. I understand one has to pick and choose with the limit of 52 sections but devoting more time to Old Testament passages could have improved the work (the 52 sections are divided exactly in half, with 26 Old Testament and 26 New Testament. By condensing some of the selections from the Gospels and Acts, more room would have allowed for Old Testament passages like 2 Samuel 7).

Although my preference remains of including passages like 2 Samuel 7 at the exclusion of less crucial ones to the promises of God in Christ, the critique in no way takes away from this book. The Beginners Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy provides parents with a solid resource to teach their children how all of the Bible points to Jesus Christ. If you know or are a parent of a 3-to-6-year-old child, purchase a copy and welcome this book into your home. This God-focused, Christ-proclaiming, gospel-centered childrens book would make a great Christmas gift!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Litfuse Publicity Group for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and are my honest review of the book.

The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible is not your typical Bible story book for preschoolers. It contains many of the most familiar Bible stories -- and a few that are not quite so familiar -- but takes the facts of those stories to a higher level.

The main highlight of the 52 stories has to do with God's promises and his work of redemption shown from the very beginning of His Word to the end. Each story is short but can easily be enriched with discussion and/or reading the Scripture passages given at the beginning of the story. Colorful illustrations accompany each story, along with a major truth (given in large, colorful print), and a summarizing question to provoke thought and conversation. The gospel plan of salvation is clearly presented multiple times throughout the book. The target audience is probably about ages 3 to 7 or 8, but the material could pretty easily be adapted a little outside that range.

I look forward to sharing this book with my young grandchildren as they continue to learn about what God's promises mean in their lives. I am sure they will enjoy the stories and illustrations and will grow in their understanding of the Bible. And before long, they will likely be reading the stories on their own.

Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for sharing a copy of The Beginner's Gospel Story Bible. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
