Hannah Byler's Pecan Pie
Beat on low speed slightly or with hand beater:
3 eggs 1/3 cup butter, melted 1 cup light corn syrup
½ t. salt 2/3 cup sugar
Stir in: 1 cup pecan halves.
Pour into: 1 pie crust
Bake at 375 for 40-50 minutes.

Since I am gluten-free I adapted some of the recipes I tried and they turned out well. On the edges of many pages are thoughtful sayings to feed the mind and heart. There are also a few brief stories sprinkled amidst the recipes. I enjoy cookbooks and was pleased to add this fine volume to my collection.
Jerry and Tina were raised Amish so they can share firsthand the about the life and the food from their heritage. Jerry also writes Amish fiction.
A great gift idea too.

I was pulled right in with so many choices and decided to start with the Garlic Cheese biscuits. They were made and sitting on the table and still warm...um where did they go. Seems like each person who went by the table before dinner took one. Recipe on page 196.
Enjoy the way this spiral bound book lays flat, with easy turning pages.
It is sweet that this is a collaboration between Jerry and his wife Tina.
One that I wish there were...are pictures. There are so many choice to make from this book. There is a great Table of Contents, and the index..I love it is such a help when searching for that recipe that caught your eye.
Along with the recipes there are wonderful quotes on each page...such as, It's better to sleep over what you plan to do than to be kept awake at night by what you have done! Or..If heaven is so beautiful on a starry night, what must it be like on the other side.
What a wonderful gift for others or yourself this beautiful cookbook will make.

This is going to be one of my favorite cookbooks. How do I know? I've tried 3 recipes so far in order for me to do an honest review. All were hits. How do I know? My husband loved them! (And so did I). I am looking forward to trying more of these great recipes!
The three recipes that I made so far are: Cheesy Potato Soup, Shipwreck, and Lemon Squares.
The Cheesy Potato soup was so rich and creamy. This made two meals for us and my husband finished the last bowl of it for a late supper tonight.
Shipwreck, oh my goodness!, was out of this world delicious. I seriously didn't know if my husband would like it. I watched him take bite after bite and he said the more bites he ate the better it tasted to him! We finished up leftovers on that one yesterday. The leftovers were yummy also!
I made the Lemon Squares this afternoon. We tried a small piece as soon as it came out of the oven_delicious. I just tried another piece since they are now cool. Still delicious!
Besides the recipes, this cookbook is filled with Amish Proverbs written on the sides of the pages. Also, there are pages with some humorous jokes on them. I've had some good laughs!
Author Jerry Eicher and his wife Tina have a hit on their hands. I will be recommending this cookbook to everyone.

I enjoyed looking through the Eicher's new cookbook, which gave the feeling of thumbing through old family recipes, or one of those old-fashioned church cookbook booklets that I found piled in my grandma's cupboard.
You won't find any mouth-watering pictures of the recipes in this cookbook, which may be a turn-off to some, but those who are looking for family-friendly meals and sides, the recipes will speak for themselves.
To successfully review a cookbook, I think you should actually MAKE one or two of the recipes (I AM a 'cooking' bookworm, after all)! The family really enjoyed Yost's Baked Chicken Pieces on page 157 and several other recipes are marked for further testing!

beckieAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5amish cookin'July 25, 2012beckieAge: 35-44Gender: female"The Amish Family Cookbook" by Jerry and Tina Eicher is a collection of recipes used by Amish and in books with Amish in them. I learned one thing from reviewing this book and that is that I don't like using a kindle for a cookbook. This book doesn't include a "go to" button to each chapter. So it makes flipping through impossible. I also do not have a kindle fire, so no pictures were available to me either. Pictures are a must have in a cookbook.
But as for the cookbook itself, it is pretty good. The last Amish cookbook I used tended to be variations of stews and soups, this one is a more modern style of cooking. Amish cook pretty much like everybody else, more vegetables and desserts maybe, but this one is pretty contemporary. I bookmarked several recipes to try at a later date and made the buttermilk cake. Good, by the way. I especially like the venison recipes that were included. I am always looking for new ways to serve deer. I highly recommend this book, especially for say, a new bride. Has a lot of basic learn to cook recipes. I would however, recommend getting a regular book and not a digital. I recieved this book for free from www.netgalley.com.
