A routine mob hit lights the fuse on an explosive collision of ambition and deception inside the Windy City's corridors of power in this audio edition of The Ambition.
Drawing on his years as an investigative reporter for The Chicago Tribune, bestselling author Lee Strobel reveals an insider's tale of power, politics, and payoffs ripped from today's headlines.
When a down-on-his-luck lawyer must bribe a federal judge to fix an upcoming mob trial, he secretly tapes the exchange to protect himself. After the dirty judge becomes a finalist for an open U.S. Senate seat, the incriminating tape isn't the only thing standing in his way. Pastor-turned-politician Eric Snow is determined to use his suburban megachurch as a launching pad for securing the Senate appointment. And newspaper reporter Garry Strider threatens to uncover both candidates' secrets in an investigation that may cost him his life.
Strobel weaves these edgy characters into an intricate thriller set in a gleaming, suburban megachurch, a big-city newspaper struggling for survival, and the shadowy corridors of political intrigue. The unexpected climax is as gripping as the contract killing that punctuates the opening scene.

Not only extremely well written, the story line is excellent, keeping your interest and yet being very thought provoking at the same time. I hope Mr. Strobel continues on with more fiction. This is worth the read. We bought the audio version to take on a road trip, and the reader is excellent.
I would consider this book excellent to read with teenagers, as it would bring up many issues to discuss and think about, and is so well written as to be an excellent example of quality literature.
As to content: there is some violence, but it is not graphically portrayed. There is a young woman who is a new Christian struggling with her relationship with the man she has lived with for some time, something young adults, indeed all of us, are going to run into frequently these days. The sexual aspect of the relationship is not graphically portrayed, but the fact that there is a sexual relationship and attraction between the two is not ignored. I do not remember any taking of God's name in vain or any foul language at all.
The issues brought up through the story are so many that I will not try to list them all, but it is basically the story of a successful pastor of a mega-church who has had a chink in his armour, and has fallen from his first love, the people surrounding him, and whom his life touches, and a couple of the ministries run by the church, one of which starts getting media attention for legitimate answers to prayer, and one which is ministering to a felon with dangerous mob connections. God is a major player, but kind of like in the book of Esther.
