Editorial Reviews

The Advent Bride was a cute little read that I really enjoyed. It's a great start to this series. The characters are well written and the story unique.

This short book/story is a delightful read, and I especially loved how Melanie sought to figure out a way to get Simon to cooperate and to solve his behavior with something positive. Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a Secret Compartment to find.

This book could not have been any sweeter. Seriously, I even told Jeremy about this book.

The precious little boy and that amazing box. The beautiful (although quick as in most of these short novellas) romance and their genuine love for God, for each other and for this little boy who needs to know love.

If you need something heart-warming and joy giving, pick up this book. It will touch your heart and maybe even bring a tear or two

What a sweet story! Melanie certainly has a difficult life (with a dreadful landlord!), but I enjoyed seeing how she worked to help one challenging student live up to his potential. The idea of using the box was brilliant, and I enjoyed how she incorporated advent into their time together. It kind of made me want a box like the one she found in the attic!

I've read one or two other books by Mary Connealy and have always enjoyed them. The Advent Bride has sold me on her, so I'll be searching out some of her back list in the future. [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Imagine teaching in 1875 in a one-room school house in Nebraska in the miserably cold winter and having one very unruly student who attempts to keep everyone in the school from learning. Teaching is hard enough under the best of circumstances. I speak from experience, having taught for fourteen years in public school. Melanie Douglas has a tough living situation in the home of a cranky, rude elderly wealthy lady and then comes to the school to deal with a student who is more than cranky. Add to that a father who leaves him at the school late in the afternoons and Melanie has a real dilemma. She finds a box with secrets of its own and it may just be the key to solving both problem of father and son. Will Melanie and Simon's father work together to correct Simon's behavior? Will both father and son learn new life lessons from the new school teacher? I know that as a modern-day teacher, I did not have to arrive early to heat up the school. I did not have to rely on a cranky woman to allow me to take small bits of food for my lunch. I did not have an unpleasant living situation to go home to each night after a day of struggling to manage a serious behavior problem in the classroom. I felt that Melanie handled the situation admirably. I rate this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to readers. I received a free pdf version of this book from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Short, bright, and touching love story!!!! Melanie has been through enough in life to know that when met with a challenge she has to overcome it instead of avoiding it. So when trying to teach in a small town school she meets with a boy, Simon, that is bent on disturbing the class and she is trying to convince his father to repriment him and take a better care of him, the father- Hank, is forcing her to take the challenge herself to get Simon interested in school. A little jewelry box with hidden compartments and a few little surprises inside turn not just Simon's world on its wheels but his father's and Melanie's as well...

Adorable short story just right for Christmas season.

Melanie Douglas has come to be a teacher on the plains of Nebraska. All alone in the world, she was grateful to find this position. But the lady she has to stay with treats her worse than a slave. A woman whom the town listens to because of the money she contributes.

A very unruly boy comes back to school after helping on his father's farm. His mother has died so Melanie tries to be patient, but he is disruptive to the whole class and it just keeps getting worse. So she decides to keep him after school and give his father a piece of her mind.

Turns out Henry OKeeffe is the new sheriff. He's holding down the job so that he and his son can be in town, plus going out to his ranch each day to keep it going. He's not in the mood to listen to her complain about his son.

Melanie, completely miserable in her attic room and spending her night in prayer, finds a strange box that somehow gives her hope. As she explores it, she thinks of an idea to bring Henry and his son closer together. But it ends up bringing them all a measure of happiness and changes all their lives.

This was a great way to start a book. This novella was a great Christmas story. It had the sad little boy, the widowed father, and the school teacher. The teacher does well by finding an item to keep the young boy occupied so he causes less problems.. I loved the story and hope the rest of the novellas are as good. I received this ebook from Barbour publishing for a fair and honest opinion.
