Publisher's Description

When Trace Riley finds the smoldering ruins of a small wagon train, he recognizes the hand behind the attack as the same group who left him as sole survivor years ago. Living off the wilderness since then, he'd finally carved out a home and started a herd--while serving as a self-appointed guardian of the trail, driving off dangerous men. He'd
hoped those days were over, but the latest attack shows he was wrong.

Deborah Harkness saved her younger sister and two toddlers during the attack, and now finds herself at the mercy of her rescuer. Trace offers the only shelter for miles around, and agrees to take them in until she can safely continue. His simple bachelor existence never anticipated kids and women in the picture and their arrival is unsettling--yet enticing.

Working to survive the winter and finally bring justice to the trail, Trace and Deborah find themselves drawn together--yet every day approaches the moment she'll leave forever.

'When the good Lord put a burden on his heart, he listened.'

I have been a Mary Connealy fan for many years. Her cowboy comedies have had me rolling in laughter. This time, she still had her wit, but it's not a huge part of the book. The story is wonderful. I was invested since the first page, in fact.

Trace Riley has been the self appointed guardian of the trail in the High Sierras, watching out for families beset upon by dangerous sidewinders intent on stealing everything they brought east with them to build a new home with. Very early one morning he comes upon Deborah Harkness, her sister and two little ones. Their wagon train had been massacred by such evil men as Trace sought to protect folks from. No one survived except the four of them. Trace has the only shelter for many miles and they settle in to stay with him as he continues to try to bring the lawbreakers to justice.

I love disappearing into a Mary Connealy novel. She just plain knows how to tell a story and tell it well. Her characters are well thought out and good people. Well, except for the nasty sidewinders. Trace and Deb both have some hard things in their past, but they are beginning to learn that God has a plan for them. Here in the High Sierras. Don't miss this one.

When Trace Riley comes across a wagon train attacked by outlaws, it brings back his own memories of when his wagon train met the same fate and he was the only survivor. He offers help to the survivors, Deb and Gwen Harkness, as well as children Maddie Sue and Ronnie Scott, offering them shelter.

Deborah and her sister Gwen are travelling west with the Scott family, and helping to care for children Maddie Sue and Ronnie. When their wagon train is brutally attacked and burned, leaving no other survivors, they must trust the strong silent cowboy who comes to their rescue.

Trace takes them back to his ranch, he and his hands make them welcome, moving into the barn, and working to build a better cabin so that they will all be safe in the winter. The men are very welcoming, and grateful when Deb and Gwen offer to start cooking meals, but they disappear when ever baby, Ronnie needs changing.

Trace isn't very good at talking to Deb, because he's never had much experience talking to women. But he does realize that if he wants to know her better he needs to be more willing to talk to her. He opens up a little about his past. Trace is a very brave and honorable man, he has been watching the pass for years, and doing is best to ward off the attacks. He wants to hunt down the outlaws once and for all, making the pass safe for travellers.

Deb is smart and determined, she is used to hard work, and is cool in a crisis. She is independent and likes to do things for herself. She admires Trace, for all the hardships, he's been through, his faith, and how hardworking he is.

Trace is my favorite, he has matured so much in his faith from reading the Bible over so many times, but he is still pretty clueless about women. He has the heart of a hero and is a great protector, with a good horse and loyal dog.

Overall a fun read, with plenty of action and good interaction. It obviously has a tough start with te attacks, and once everything gets back on track it goes much smoother. Great humor, and surprises along the way. I'm excited to read the next books in the series.

Like a moth to the flame, I was drawn into this book from the cover. The adorable little girl, the rays of sunlight, and the cowboy, all work together along with the title to pull you and leave you wanting more. I had to know the story the lived within the pages of Mary Connealy's latest novel!

Trace Riley has been guarding the wagon trail in the high Sierra's for many years. He's no stranger to the rugged wilderness. He knows what it takes to survive the harsh elements because he's more than just survived, he's flourished in these mountains. If there was ever someone you wanted in your corner, it would be Trace Riley!

Deborah, her sister, and two toddlers are the only survivors of a vicious wagon train attack. Rescued and offered shelter for the winter, will they still wish to leave when spring arrives? Will the criminals from the attack continue on their rampage, or will they be caught in time to prevent others from being harmed?

I have long been a fan of Mary Connealy's writing, and this newest story didn't disappoint. The characters are realistic and engaging. You won't want to put this story down once you start reading it!

(I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

Another good book by Ms. Connealy. Lighthearted humor with enough mystery to keep it interesting. Deborah takes her responsibility of protecting her younger sister and the two young children in her care seriously. She will do anything to keep them safe. Trace is trying to find the men who murdered his pa and others along the wagon train trail. He does what is necessary to keep them safe. He comes upon Deborah and takes them to his ranch. Then the fun begins.

I highly recommend this book for everyone.

I was given this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

I should probably start this review with a disclaimer... I love everything I have read by Mary Connealy. Accidental Guardian is one of those books. It is a one of a kind story and I enjoyed every minute of it. I easily fell in love with Trace, so I dont blame Deb one bit. Being a survivor of a wagon train massacre would be no easy trial. It is one thing that both Trace and Deb have in common. This book follows the pair as they seek to protect innocent wagon train travelers from cowards who strike when least expected.

When Trace arrives at the scene of the latest massacre, the last thing he expects to find is two women and two children who not only survived, but they might even be able to recognize the murderers if they saw them again. Trace hasnt been around women or children at all, but one thing he does know, is he needs to protect them. Right now the only way he knows to do that is bring them home to his ranch. Little does he know, his life will never be the same. Can love be found amongst tragedy?

Trace didnt have an easy life, and I loved him right away. He was the sweetest and most respectful kind of man, and I loved him all the more for his lack of experience. I am dying to read the next book in this series! I already love all the characters and cant wait to find out who we get to know even more next. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to escape on an adventure where youll both laugh, and bite your nails in nervousness. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
