In this Scripture-based four-week study Latta leads the readers through the necessary building blocks that are needed to survive what is thrown at them.
This is an excellent resource to find God's will in one's life and to learn how to share His love with others.
I was given this book by the author and bookfun.org in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Why? Well, for me, if that author is seeking the Lord and really digging in to the Word, it resonates with my heart. No one teacher always gets it right because after all we are all human and only God is perfect all the time. When I was reading about Kelly, I came across the following statement on page 4: "Compelled into the Word to discover Truth for herself, she encountered Jesus though the pages..." So now she has my attention because she was "compelled to dig". I pray she is still that way as well as encouraging others to as well.
Second, I went to her website and read some of her blog posts. You can learn a lot about people or at the very least get a sense of who they are when you read their writings. She seems very transparent and desires to be an encouragement to others by showing examples of those in Bible times who lived in faith. The Word of God is His Word. He left all human failings in the pages; He left what they did obediently too.
Third, I looked through the study guide before going any further. What was I looking for as I was reading? I wanted to see the content. There are four weeks of study presented and spaces to write not just answers to questions, but also to answers to challenging questions with which she ends her lessons. I like when a study is direct, doesn't have people going all over the Word but staying in a place to glean the truth for themselves.
Finally, like any study there are things some of you may really like and perhaps some things you don't, but that is as it should be. Always ask God for discernment when reading what someone has put forth in a study guide and search out in His Word any questions that are prompted in your heart. The whole idea of a study like this is to have a starting place, not the end all. Read the Scriptures in context Kelley refers to by reading verses above and below what is quoted. What matters is not what any human author says, but what He says!
MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Bible studyJune 18, 2014MaryMinnesotaAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"Tested By Fire: Will What You Build Survive?" is a great four week Bible study. It can be used for an individual or in a group. It contains a question and answer section and a discussion guide. I felt like the questions were easy to answer and not overwhelming. Yet they were also very rich in content.
I like how Kelley Latta has used both the Old and New Testament scriptures to make her point. Her book is clear and easy to understand. I think this workbook would be great for a new Christian as well as an experienced one! Some of the topics include listening, being obedient, sanctification, being Spirit-filled and basically how much we need God in our lives! Latta reminds us that it is important to take the time to listen to God, to see Him in each aspect of our lives and to be genuine in our relationship with Him!
I hope you enjoy this study as much as I did. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5tried and testedJune 11, 2014ShaiNorfolk, NEAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Tested by Fire is the first of Kelley Latta's books that I've read and I found it to be a great study! Tested by Fire digs into the deeper meaning of what it means to be a follower of Christ not just in classification of word but with heart and soul. Although many claim to be Christians in labels, they fail to do what obedience requires. In this four week study, Kelley Latta teaches the steps how obedience to God's word comes from loving Christ wholeheartedly. It also means examining one's beliefs from "this is how we've always done it" to "this is what the Word of God says".
The study incorporates both Old and New Testament scriptures and references utilizing not only the instruction, but the examples of the lives of those in the bible. The workbook has a sufficient amount of personal homework to involve the participant in their own active pursuit to know God's word better. In addition, Ms. Latta provides free reference materials and continuing education along with a small group discussion guide and online videos.
The study can be used effectively for individual use but can also be expanded to include a group experience. I would definitely recommend the study as a great way to not only increase biblical knowledge but to explore through self-examination and study, one's personal faith.
I loved the way the study built the foundation of Christ and his purpose and then showed how each of us has a God designed purpose. The layout of the book was such that it could be done just about anywhere with only a bible. In addition, the study uses real life examples from Ms. Latta's own life as well as those of other known Christian speakers and teachers.
Tested by Fire is a bible study I will be recommending to my friends and family. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pamela JoBucks County, PAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Building A Strong FoundationJune 2, 2014Pamela JoBucks County, PAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Tested By Fire: Will What You Build Survive? is a four week bible study which takes the Christian reader on a journey from knowing about Jesus, to truly knowing Him. Like many of us, Kelley Latta grew up in the Christian faith, but it took years for her to find a deeper meaning to her life.
I found this Bible study to be insightful, deeply moving, and helpful in developing a stronger faith and relationship with Christ. Kelley interjects her personal experiences with scripture which pertains to her commentary. The book is divided into 5 days of study for 4 weeks. Each day finds the reader studying scriptures and then answering questions about the verses. Those questions are thought provoking and help the reader to better understand what it is to give up their plan for living and accept God's plan for their life. At the end of each week, there is a page for the reader to write down reflections about what they have learned during the week. This book is a workbook, as well as an inspirational guide. It is easy to follow and also includes a discussion guide at the end.
As I read this book, I began to really feel Christ's presence. I felt as though my deep personal and spiritual needs were being met. A greater power than my own became available to me as I continued this study and my life feels more complete because of it. God has plans for me, if I will take the time to really listen to and understand his word. What a treasure this Bible study has become to me! If you grew up knowing about Jesus, but now wish to truly know Him, then you will find this study to be a wonderfully moving journey. It will help you to build your life on the strong foundation of the Lord's word. I have the highest praise for Kelley Latta's ministry. She has made a difference in my life and I pray she will make a difference in yours, as well.

Tell us a little about yourself. Im a soccer mom with two teenage sons and two Australian Shepherds. I share life with my husband and best friend, Steve, and together we want more than anything to bring honor to Jesus. But to be honest, that wasnt always the case . . .
What was your motivation behind this project? I really want to help people discover how to have a relationship with Jesus. Its something I struggled with myself for years, and I realize now that I almost missed knowing Him altogether. I was born into a Christian home, grew up attending church and Christian school, and knew a lot of Scripture. Yet I spent most of my life feeling empty, wondering why I didnt experience the promises I read about in Gods Word. It left me struggling in my beliefs over whether Jesus was even real. Then I had my first son, and I joined a Bible study to try to become more spiritual for his sake. One day, while doing the homework, I faced the question, Do you love Jesus? I started to answer yes because I knew that was the right answer, but the conviction of the Holy Spirit fell over me that day, and I saw what God saw: I didnt really love Him. I had been pretending, living a lie. That realization changed everything. I believe there are many Christians out there struggling with those same doubts and frustrations. We go through the motions of going to church and doing things that we believe God expects of us, yet we miss the transforming life promised to us in Gods Word. At the heart of our frustration lies an absence of true intimacy with Jesus. As I began to seek Gods Word for the purpose of knowing and loving Him instead of just looking at it to find out what I should and shouldnt do, Jesus began to reveal Himself and change me. Those promises I read about became realized in my life, and all my doubts faded. A passion grew in my heart to help others discover what I had found. Eventually God led me to put some of those teachings together in this book.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Tested by Fire is a Bible study that teaches what it means to live by faith. Were instructed in Gods Word to follow Jesus, but we often struggle with what thats supposed to look like, so we end up trying to follow His law instead of follow Him. Tested by Fire helps steer readers into deeper intimacy with Jesus, challenging them to draw near and listen, and then trust Him through obedience. Jesus just wants us to come close and listen, to pay attention to Him. Thats really what worship is in its simplest form: attentiveness. Secondly, I hope it will help guide readers into living Gods plan for them. We spend so much time insisting on our own way and working so hard to bring about our own desires for our lives. Learning to rest in Gods plan and trusting Jesus to lead us into our God-given purpose allows us to experience Gods power and presence in profound ways. It allows Jesus to reveal Himself in and through us, which, after all, is the purpose of the church. The title, Tested by Fire, comes from 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, which warns that every believer will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ, and each one should be careful how he builds (verse 10). When He returns, Jesus will test the quality of our works with fire. Although verse 15 clearly indicates that our salvation isnt at stake, these verses teach that we will either receive eternal reward or suffer loss based on whether what we have built with our lives survives the flames. Tested by Fire will help readers discover whether theyre truly building on the Rock or whether theyve been busily doing works for Jesus that wont last. As they join God in His purpose, they will see Gods glory revealed in and through them, and what they build will last.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Working on this book has touched me on so many levels. Every lesson has come from my own personal journey. These are the Scriptures that God used to open my eyes and change my heart, so I have such hope for the readers because I know how they impacted me. And it still impacts me on a daily basis because my journey to publication came as a result of living the principles I teach in this book. I never set out to publish a Bible study. Honestly, several years ago I just began to do what I encourage others to do in Tested by Fire: draw near to Jesus and follow Him step by step into His plan for my life. I had been teaching Bible study for several years, and I felt God stirring my heart toward full time ministry, but I had no idea what that was supposed to look like. Eventually I started writing, and God opened a door for me to attend a writers conference. I felt a little out of my element and had so much information thrown at me, I was overwhelmed. I had no idea where to begin. But God met me there in profound ways and consistently whispered one message into my heart. Pour in where you are, and I will make it flow out. He released all the pressure I placed on myself to figure it out, assuring me that Hethe I AM had it covered. I just needed to be faithful where He had placed me, and He would move me on in His plan in His timing. On the plane ride home from that conference, He prompted me to begin writing a Bible study for our womens ministry team at my home church. The intent was to draw us into the Word together, steering us as individuals and as a group into Gods presence, and subsequently His purpose. I obeyed. Then God began to open doors to share it outside the walls of my church, and He continues to amaze me as I see Him carry it further and further.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I am extremely grateful for a handful of people in my life who chose to go all in with Jesus and live radical faith. I grew up hearing stories of Gods miraculous provision from my aunt who served as a missionary overseas, stories that couldnt be explained with logic and testified to Gods existence. I saw a passion in her for Jesus that I didnt see other places. As I struggled with doubt over whether Jesus really existed, her testimony kept me from walking away from Him altogether. How REAL He was to her stirred something in me, until finally I discovered Him for myself. Im so grateful for her influence. Thats what I hope to be for others, a living testimony that Jesus does exist. I want to live a life that cant be explained away. I want people to witness His hand all over it.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: More than anything, I want them to know that God has so much more than ordinary in store for them if they will learn to trust Him. His plans far surpass anything we could think up, and He loves us desperately. Jesus doesnt need extraordinary talent from us. He just needs us to offer Him a humble heart. He wants to do the rest!
