Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year
Everybody loves a good story.
In an age when prepackaged gospel formulations leave people cold, well-told Bible stories can be used powerfully by God to touch people's hearts and draw them to himself.
After ministry in both Western and non-Western contexts, church planter Christine Dillon has discovered that Bible storying is far more effective than most other forms of apologetics or evangelistic presentations. In fact, non-Christians actually enjoyed storying and kept coming back for more. Storying provides solid biblical foundations so listeners can understand, apply and respond to the gospel, and then go on to fruitful maturity in God's service.
This book includes practical guidance on how to shape a good story, how to do evangelism through storying and how to lead Bible discussions. With particular insights for trainers and those working in crosscultural contexts, this guide provides you with concrete steps for sharing the Story that everyone needs to hear.

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm an Australian but didn't really become one until after I was 17 as my parents were missionaries in Asia. Love telling the best story of them all, hiking, swimming and cycling.
What was your motivation behind this project? More and more people were asking me to train them in telling Bible stories and I realized that a book would allow these ideas to spread further. I also believed that this method of communication was so important and that people needed to hear about it earlier than I did. I wish I'd known about it 20 years ago.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? An excitement about this form of communication. That they will become lifelong story tellers and learn to tell Bible stories to use in evangelism, discipling others and training. Also learn how to train others that they know.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The more stories I've learned and told the more I've grown as a Christian. I've also had the pleasure of seeing so many people get excited about story telling "At last, a method that helps me communicate and suits me."
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The characters in the stories have become mentors - Abraham, Elijah, Daniel ... John Walsh has been a story telling mentor.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: There is an accompanying website to the book. This was needed because story telling is an oral art form. We need to hear the stories. storyingthescriptures.com contains video stories, links to other resources and a 'story of the week' about someone using storytelling somewhere in the world.
