I took a while to get here, but I'm really glad we switched over. TT5 has turned our daughter from a math hater to a math lover. She can't wait to get started each morning. Although I thought it would be too simple compared to what we had been using, it has stayed challenging for her. She likes the independance of it, and I can check in with her grades any time.
I love this program! It has made the most time consuming way less time consuming. I love that it teaches, tests and grades. And yet I still receive the joy of teaching some and watching them grow, since not every child learns by the same teaching method. And my kids live it too. They still grow tired, but are far more willing to move on.
this is our 3rd year using TT and i have absolutely no need to switch to anything else. i love it because it is hands free for me but i still see everything they do and my kids love it because of the little funny creatures in it. it runs about half level behind so we usually start next grade around NY
My two sons have loved Teaching Textbooks. And I love that they can do their lessons/homework on their own with little assistance from me. I really appreciate that an explanation will be given right on the spot if the student gets an answer wrong. I wish the program was a little less expensive, but it's still worth the money.
My kids and I love this program because it allows them to work independently and for me to oversee them. I know instantly whether or not they understood the daily lesson based on their grade and that gives me the opportunity to go back and help explain anything that was unclear. We are able to take this math with us when we travel which I love because we are on the go a lot! The grades are recorded and kept on the computer which is helpful because that is one less thing I have to worry about. It can be used with multiple children and is definitely worth the expense. For one price I have the fifth grade curriculum for all of my children. It's definitely behind the curve as far as the pace of information being presented compared to a curriculum like A Beka but I recommend testing your child before purchasing and getting the correct level for your child. There are no rules that say a fourth grader can't use Math 5 :) Since this program is about presenting new concepts and each lesson focuses on that more than review (I feel) I also purchased the Flash Master to drill the kids on their math facts. It has been an amazing resource! I also use Calculadder as a daily drilling tool. Basically math is learning facts and concepts. I insist that my kids memorize their facts (no counting on fingers) and we are continually and consistently drilling (this is the key) over all of our facts to keep us sharp. So far we've used Math 3, 4 and 5. It's so easy to get tossed around in the sea of curriculum but I recently heard a mom say, " When you find what works STOP looking!" We LOVE Teaching Textbooks!
