I love Teaching Textbooks! We started using it for 7th grade math. We are now doing Pre-Algebra and Algebra. It has been a God send. Neither of my boys really enjoy math, but TT has changed that. They no longer try to get out of doing it. Concepts are taught in an understanding way, sometimes with a little humor. I do like that they try to use real life events when teaching the lesson. The lessons aren't too long so it keeps their attention.

I give my boys a notebook to do their work in and not write in the textbook so that it can be reused which is encouraged by TT. That saves $$. I highly recommend this product to anyone!

Switched over from Saxon to Teaching Textbooks

We have used Saxon across the board but as my oldest two transitioned into high school they began to struggle with the format and felt that the curriculum did not explain the "why" behind the "how". Saxon also jumps from concept to concept which was not a problem at the earlier levels but just didn't work for us as they progressed into high school math. Several friends recommended Teaching Textbooks so we gave it a try. While a do agree that the Algebra 1 is not as "rigorous" as Saxon, it's definitely more interesting for the student, easy to understand, and does cover the necessary algebra 1 concepts. There is plenty of time in high school for your student to progress through the curriculum and tackle harder concepts. For us, Saxon just wasn't working and my son was dreading math. Now he enjoys his lessons and seems to have no trouble understanding the concepts being taught. He tells me that TT does a better job of explaining the "why" behind the "how." If your child is a serious math buff, TT might not be challenging enough. But, if your child is struggling a bit with math or just not loving it, then TT might be the solution for you. An added bonus is that it's very easy for the parent to track grades and see student progress. Very user friendly. So far, we are happy with our choice.

i started using teaching textbooks 3 years ago. while my daughter is good at math she doesnt like doing it. this completely changed things for her. she doesnt ever want to do any other curriculim for math. she is now in 7th grade, doing high scool algebra. i love it because with the lectures on the disc and it being self grading, it frees me up to focus on other subjects. excellent product.

Ask a Question

Q: Do you need the cd-roms Does one need the cd-roms to use with this textbook, or can the textbook and answer key stand alone?

It is possible to use the books alone. However, the CDs are such a good value (120-160 hours of teaching at less than $1 per hour) that we think anyone who can afford them should definitely make the investment. Also, students who use the CDs generally learn more and enjoy the program more than ones who don't.
