Publisher's Description

The second edition of The Teaching Ministry of the Church makes a major overhaul of its predecessor, increasing the content from eighteen to twentythree chapters and contributors from six to thirteen. These writers assert the need for such an expanded update is due to our everchanging world. For example, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, proliferation of religious sects, and secularization of our culture greatly increase the importance of ensuring the church produces fully developed, biblically informed followers of Jesus.

To that end, The Teaching Ministry of the Church presents a full overview of Christian education in four major sections: Theological Foundations, Biblical Foundations, Preparation for Teaching, and Structuring the Teaching Ministry of the Church. Within this framework, a step-by-step plan for establishing and maintaining an effective teaching ministry among preschoolers, children, youth, and adults takes shape.

Key chapters: “The Bible as Curriculum,” “The Church’s Role in Teaching,” “Creating an Unforgettable Learning Experience,” and “Equipping Teachers.”

This is a wonderful book for learning Bible teaching, I have learned the most from chapter 7:

    I. The Disciple: Called To Learn, this chapter showed us the steps to planning intentional Discipleship Experiences for leaders to consider:

    1) Understand the purpose of discipleship.

    2) Recognize your church possibilities.

    3) Determine needs and interest of the people.

    4) Provide qualified leaders.

    5) Plan and offer discipleship experiences.

    6) Evaluate the process

II. Principles of teaching: I think that chapter 12: How To Study The Bible, showed us 5 Principles of Teaching which can apply to my church or in my teaching as the following:

    1) Interpret the passage literally.

    2) Interpret the Bible passage considering its immediate context.

    3) Interpret the passage in view of history and culture.

    4) Interpret the passage in view of literary form.

    5) Interpret the passage in view of other part of Scripture.

II. Teaching Skill: I think chapter 20: Equipping Teachers, may help TEACHERS OR PROMOTION OF FACULTY TEACHING SKILLS FOR EFFECTIVE themselves and the Church

    1) The Need for the Systematic Equipping of Teachers.

    2) Training by Meeting

    a) Annual Training.

    b) Quarterly Training.

    c) Monthly Training.

    d) Weekly Training.

    e) Individual Training.

    3) Training by E-mail.

IV. Teaching God's Word: I think 5 things in the book that I have read can help me on POSSIBILITY of sermon and teaching GOD'S WORD or compiling documents to TEACH as the following:

    1) Interpret the passage literally.

    2) Interpret the Bible passage considering its immediate context.

    3) Interpret the passage in view of history and culture.

    4) Interpret the passage in view of literary form.

    5) Interpret the passage in view of other part of Scripture.

    Praise the Lord!
