I think it is fair to say that I really appreciate the work of John Piper. I've had the opportunity to hear him speak live during a Children's Desiring Conference in Minnesota and he was just as encouraging live as his books were when I read them at home. I always jump at the opportunity to read his books and his new devotional, Taste and See, did not disappoint.
Generally speaking, I'm hesitant about devotionals - I would prefer to read the word of God on it's own and meditate on what is being taught about God or His character - and then begin to pray and ask the Lord to enable me to see what it means for me personally and how I might apply it in a practical way. Too often, much of devotionals seem to be niceties or positive affirmations - but lack Biblical depth.
As my children have grown and the seasons of motherhood change, I've come to appreciate the devotionals that have the ability to point me back to the word of God - causing me to run to the Bible, but still seem manageable for a homeschooling Mama of 4 kids in a full season of life. Honestly, many devotionals like the one I described have been a rarity.
John Piper's Taste and See has been a fabulous devotional to begin and end my days as Piper never ceases to point me back to the truth of God's word and His glorious character. In the author's preface, he shares how the best authors "intensify our taste for the Bible" - and Piper does just that. Each devotional entry is steeped in God's truth, His word, and I can't help but want to run to the word of God to see for myself what Piper is meditating on or speaking of in the particular devotion.
In a way that only Piper can, He can cause me to see God's sovereign hand in losing a MasterCard and in the same way, exhort me to "prayerfully ransack the Bible" for all it's worth. Each devotion was equally filled with truth that pointed me back to the Savior!
I would definitely recommend this devotional, especially if you are in a season of struggling to read. You'll find you can help but seek the Lord for yourself as you read through.

My Pastor's wife read out of this book and it struck me so hard as to what it was saying. Mr Piper has a wonderful way of guiding us thru the Scriptures. I immediately ordered it and when I went to put it in my library I found I had a copy from some time ago. Now I have a copy to give away so that others can enjoy it.
Thought-provoking and God-glorifying, T&S challenges and convicts while it also encourages and inspires hope. A great help in guiding believers to the wonder of finding their satisfaction in God Himself.
