In this four-session small group Bible study DVD, Andy Stanley shows you how to take authentic responsibility for the things in your life.
RESPONSIBILITIES. We all have them. But we don't all take them as seriously as we ought to. Wouldn't it be great, though, if we all took responsibility for the things we are responsible for? Wouldn't it be great if you took responsibility for everything you're responsible for? It's time to stop the finger pointing and excuse-making and to remove the ir in irresponsible.
In this four-session small group Bible study, Stanley tells us its time to ask ourselves, Am I REALLY taking responsibility for my life?
This DVD features six sessions with 15-20 minutes of live teaching from Andy Stanley. Its designed for use with Taking Responsibility for Your Life Participant Guide (sold separately). When used together they provide a powerful catalyst for spiritual growth.

Marc1 Stars Out Of 5Great teaching with one very big problem.March 21, 2014MarcQuality: 5Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1Before purchasing this dvd as a gift, I previewed it on a website. I was shocked to hear Pastor Stanley say the following during the first few minutes of this teaching in reference to the book of Genesis:
"And by the way, I know that there are different views of this account (Genesis). You know, some people think it is a myth; some people just think it is the ancient way of explaining the beginning of mankind. Some people think that this actually happened and the Adam and Eve were actually people who existed.
Here is the deal: Jesus, on two occasions, referred to Adam and Eve, specifically, in the creation account. And He seemed to refer to them in such a way the He believed that they actually lived; that these were actually historical people.
He used the creation account to make a really, really important point about marriage. He leverage this story to make a point about marriage and some other things. So, Jesus seems to have believed this really happened, so I just go with Jesus.
And I realize that there lots of different views on this, but regardless of whether you think this is historical, or just allegorical, or myth, listen to these words, because its absolutely fascinating. And if you do not think this is real, it makes it even more kind of intriguing, because of the incredible insight from this ancient, ancient, ancient, ancient, ancient book, called the book of Genesis."
Later in the teaching, he again makes reference to Genesis as "this ancient book, this ancient 'myth';" no wonder Jesus took it seriously."
It seems to me that he is taking a post modern philosophical position about the accuracy, reliability, and inerrancy of the book of Genesis. He is not making a case for the accuracy of Genesis, but rather leaving up to individuals to decide for themselves. He, as an individual, believes in the accuracy of Genesis, but he fully "understands" that others do not and he recognizes their choice not to.
If Genesis may be regarded as a myth, then the entire Bible can also be regarded as a myth. Genesis is the foundation upon which the entire Bible is based; if it is not historically accurate, then the entire Bible becomes unreliable. Romans 5 is entirely based on the sin of one man, Adam, and the sacrifice of one man, Christ. If the "first man, Adam" may have been a myth, then the "last Adam," Christ, may also have been a myth (I Corinthians 15:44-46). I Timothy 2:12-14 refers to Adam and Eve as real, individual people. As someone once said, "If God lied in Genesis, then when did He start telling the truth?" The post modernist would reply, "Whenever anyone thinks He did or did not; that is up to each person to decide."
His teaching about responsibility is excellent, but his teaching about the book of Genesis is terrible. I think that he has a responsibility as a minister to explain why the book of Genesis is reliable and why it must be in order for the entire Bible to be reliable. The idea that each individual is free to decide whether Genesis is history or myth is not an orthodox Christian position; it is post modernism.

We all were very satisfied with the message of responsibility. Andy's presentation really hit home as we all saw ourselves in his examples of how we try to avoid being responsible for our decisions and actions. We highly recommend this series for all study groups.

Andy approaches it from the inverse: If you are irresponsible, then others have to pick up your responsibility. He also discusses reaping and sowing, and fairness (or lack of it). Andy is good at shining the lens on an issue from a different angle. The study gets you to think, as did our group. Andy uses Genesis, Galatians, Joshua and Matthew to make his points in each of the four sessions. Not what we expected and it was great!
restAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Worth your timeDecember 27, 2011restAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4it is a very good series. By nature, we pass responsibility to someone else when it is in our advantage to do it. Andy helps the viewer/listener to face up to that tendency deal with it. "Taking Responsibility" is the godly thing to do. To do so stops the circle of falsely placed blame and brings lasting and real solutions to problems we deal with every day. This series is worth your time.
