PeacemakerAtlanta4 Stars Out Of 5Highly recommended!January 17, 2014PeacemakerAtlantaQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I highly recommend this 6-session DVD series for individual or group study, with a disclaimer that the series is presented by a Protestant, and Catholics will note a few points that do not agree with Catholic Doctrine. The included DVD with PDF files for printable leader guide and promotional materials was thorough and easily adaptable for many uses.
Why the Tabernacle study?
I facilitate a Salvation History Class and found the Rose Publishing visual aids were a fantastic way to engage in somewhat dry historical topics. I found myself being drawn to know more about the Tabernacle, just what was it, and maybe there was a story there to enhance my knowledge of Biblical history as well as my own worship. The topics were well covered and with depth to inspire me to review certain topics again.
I enjoyed the progressive tour of the Tabernacle which began with an explanation of how the 12 tribes of Israel were set up around the Tabernacle with the Levites closest to the Tabernacle. I found the series very easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed Barnard's presentation of theology of the Tabernacle in relation to specific scriptures and in relation to how we worship today. I intend to use the list of scriptures related to topics in the PDF leader guide. I had a few ah-ha moments, such as the high priest sprinkling blood on the Mercy Seat made of acacia wood on the Day of Atonement foreshadowing Christ's blood on the cross.
Negatives/Distractions: (for which I will deduct one star from total of five stars)
1) Preacher-type presentation in front of a large stained-glass background. The audience, as seen from behind, were sitting in the dark and never seemed to move or make a sound. Very odd. I would have preferred to see less of Barnard gesticulating and more shots of religious artwork or illustrations depicting the topic at hand.
2) I am not in full agreement with Barnard's repeated "truth" that "Everything in scripture points to and finds fulfillment in Jesus Christ." My problem is with the "everything." I suspect his meaning is that the whole of scripture is a story of salvation.
3) Barnard's typology, in my opinion, was excessive to the point of being a distraction. In this case, less is more.
This DVD series is a thorough but not overwhelming introduction to study of the Tabernacle which I suggest will fulfill the needs of your individual or group study as well as deepen your faith.

Chew Keng Sheng5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent teaching!September 24, 2013Chew Keng ShengQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Initially, I was rather skeptical whether I would learn anything new from this DVD study, considering I just completed a similar study on the Tabernacle. I thought, "It's just going to be the same thing repeated." How wrong I was!
In fact, I find this series to be a very rich learning experience. I realized I missed a number of gems that Shawn taught the first time I went through the series. However, as I watched it again and again, I began to gather more and more truths that ultimately show how the Tabernacle points to and find its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

"But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee;" (2 Chronicles 6:18) and yet God pitched His tent among us. (John 1:1-18)
"Everything in Scripture points to finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ." Shawn Barnard.
We often talked about the study of THEOPHANY: Manifestation of God that is tangible to the human senses. In its most restrictive sense, it is a visible appearance of God in the Old Testament period often, but not always, in human form. Some would also include in this term Christophanies (preincarnate appearances of Christ).
In just 6-Session and each consisted of about 20 minutes which sounds more like a sermon which I wished there were more graphic to show in each session. I will just touch upon session 1 "Dwell" the Tabernacle, we see that God Tabernacle was with Israel in the wilderness and see this in the New Testament as well where God still dwells among His people (Matthew 28:20)
In this study, we are not just look to see to Scripture and finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. We live a life which reflect the image of Christ to the world. We must remember this that the world will not initiate God because God is the one who initiate first by torn down veil to allow those who He initiate to enter the Holies before the throne of grace.
As a Christian, it is our duty to show the world that God is truly living among His people by preaching the Gospel and make disciples of all nation.
If you are looking for an introduction study about the Tabernacle, this video is a great start for small group study. You and your small group will benefit from this as you learn and discover that we are the true tabernacle, the dwelling place of God. (Ephesians 2:22)

Randy A BrownTNAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent detail, focuses on applicationAugust 25, 2013Randy A BrownTNAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Tabernacle in the Old Testament is a foreshadow of sacrifice of Jesus in the New Testament. Pastor Shawn Bernard teaches this in detail in this 6-session DVD by Rose Publishing. The DVD-based study for individuals and groups includes the 6-session DVD and a disc of PDF's to help you set up and teach a class based on this study.
The DVD contains six 30 minute sessions and a 30 discussion taught by Pastor Shawn Bernard. The sessions cover the elements of the Tabernacle (The Tabernacle, The Altar of Burnt Offering, The Bronze Laver, The Lampstand, The Table of Bread and The Altar of Incense, The Veil, the Ark, and the Mercy Seat) and shows how they apply to our salvation today.
Each segment goes into great detail about that element of the Tabernacle. There is plenty of Scripture given that shows what that element of the Tabernacle was for and how it corresponds to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross- showing that sacrifice of Jesus fulfills the Old Testament covenant. Great detail is given that shows the purpose of each element of the Tabernacle and how Jesus fulfilled the requirements that each of those elements fulfilled.
I like the level of detail from the teaching. I would like to see more slides and pictures to go along with the video. The teaching is as much application as it is Old Testament facts. I think this is better than just giving the facts. Knowing about the elements of the Tabernacle is nice, but applying it to our lives is what is really important. This DVD does that well.
The second DVD includes PDF files to use along with the video. Files include a printable Leader Guide, poster, filer, postcard, bulletin insert, and banners.
The Leader Guide is 96 pages and includes information on how to lead the study for each of the six sections. It includes good points and tips on how to lead a study. The segments include a truth statement, a key verse, the main point of study, what will be learned, opening the session, a viewer guide (fill in the blanks - these are included in the video), discussion with questions to answer, group activities, and more. Each section includes a suggested length of time to help the leader stay on target. In the back is a summary, glossary, and a list of Bible references.
This 6-session DVD goes into great detail of the elements of the Tabernacle, but more than that it goes into great detail of how it applies to us today. There is a lot of good teaching in this DVD. Between the videos and the Leader Guide in PDF there is enough here to hold both individual and group studies. I recommend The Tabernacle DVD from Rose Publishing for both individual and group study.
