Berkhof's loyalty to the well-defined lines of the Reformed Faith, his concise and compact style and his up-to-date treatment have made this work the most important twentieth century compendium of Reformed Theology. "This work seemed particularly important to me," writes the author, "in view of the widespread doctrinal indifference of the present day, of the resulting superficiality and confusion in the mind of many professing Christians, of the insidious errors that are zealously propogated even from the pulpits, and of the alarming increase of all kinds of sects. If there ever was a time when the church ought to guard her precious heritage, the deposit of truth that was entrusted to her care, that time is now."

His work saw me through many a seminary class. I love how everything is outlined and easy to find. He is also not overly long winded.
When I need to find something really quick and read on it fast, this is my turn to volume.
I would also recommend that you purchase the Banner Of Truth edition (Which this one is) because the binding is much better. It looks as if the binding in this edition is sewn instead of glued, so the book stays open when on a table.
There is another edition from a different publisher where the binding is glued and closes up when not held open.
You can't go wrong with this edition.
