Hello everyone, my name is Casey Sandberg. I am the Casey Sandberg that is mentioned in the preface to Dr. Wayne Grudems 2nd Edition of Systematic Theology. After graduating from high school, I went to Christ for the Nations Bible College in BC, Canada. From 2009 to 2010 my life was greatly transformed by the Lord and one of the books He used was Dr. Grudems Systematic Theology. Since that time I was first introduced to deeper, Biblical, and academic study of the Christian faith Dr. Grudems systematic theology has been the standard/primary ST textbook that I use first. After reading Dr. Grudem Ill turn to other theologians like Calvin, Berkhof, Hodge, Vos, Oden, Reymond, Erickson, Lewis & Demarest, Williams, Bird, MacArthur & Mayhue, Akin, and many more! Since 2009 Ive studied apologetics, theology, church history, historical theology, and more at the Bible College/Seminary level. I believe that Dr. Grudems updated classic is a must have for your library. He includes current and relevant topics that interest Christians today. Dr. Grudem writes from an Evangelical Protestant Calvinistic Charismatic (Continuationist) Baptist perspective. A theological persuasion that I also share and promote. What I like about Dr. Grudems ST is that its easy to read, well organized, and he covers all the major loci of Christian doctrine from Scripture and God to the Church and End Times. If money was no object and I would be able to complete my degree I would want to be an apologetics and systematic theology professor in a Bible College or Seminary. I would use Dr. Grudems 2nd edition of systematic theology and Dr. Robert Reymonds 2nd edition of systematic theology for my theology classes (Dr. Beeke and Dr. Smalleys 4 volume Reformed Systematic Theology series is amazing also!). One critique of the book is that in the first printing of the book there are some editorial and reference mistakes throughout the book that need to be corrected. I am working on a review and corrections list of these errors right now for a future revised printing. I pray the Lord grants me, Dr. Grudem, and Zondervan Academic the ability and drive to make sure this book is as up to date and professionally made as possible. My desire is to bless Dr. Grudems ministry and Christs Church!

I plan on future posts reviewing his 2nd edition of Systematic Theology in more detail via social media.

    God Bless!

I am a layman, so take my understanding with a grain of salt. Wayne Grudem's stance and core beliefs are laid out thoughtfully and sensibly. This text is an excellent reference for anyone looking to delve deeper into God's word. Dr. Grudem does a great job of covering the different viewpoints on each subject and then bringing it back to what he believes God's word is stating. Again, this book is an excellent addition to any believer's library for reference or reading cover to cover.

This book is not comprehensive, but it provides an excellent introduction to the theological concepts presented - just as it says it will. Grudem does not skirt issues but presents a fair approach when considering them. Nor does he present a dry academic work, but rather uses "real people" language even while defining theological terms. Grudem has accomplished much in interesting even someone like me who has a strong dislike for the technical approach so often taken with this type of book. I actually enjoy reading it, and that says a lot!
