AmyL5 Stars Out Of 5Swtich On Your Brain Every Day!December 6, 2018AmyLQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In October, I shared about Think, Learn, Succeed by Dr. Caroline Leaf. After I finished it, I picked up Switch on Your Brain Every Day: 365 Readings for Peak Happiness, Thinking and Health. It's a daily devotional that pairs small teachings from Dr. Leaf's book Switch On Your Brain with scripture and actionable steps to put the reading into practice.
Growing up in the church has taught me many ways to read scripture. What I'm loving about Switch On Your Brain Every Day is that I'm being encouraged to think about scripture in new ways. To see how scriptures I've always read one way, may actually be speaking more to how to train our brains to think and develop. In addition to challenging the way I think about scripture, each reading gives a "brainy tip" that shows how to put the "why" of scripture into action.
I love that Dr. Leaf shows us how to put into practice the things we are learning both in scripture and from science. Each reading is a chance to change the way you are functioning. And as those changes begin to occur, I've found that I am enjoying life more, finding my thought processes more positive and I feel better on an emotional and physical level.
I've found each reading easy to digest and I look forward to doing each reading every day! I'm excited to see where learning and building these new habits take me in the new year!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. This review is my own, honest opinion.

I think this fact is ignored and often neglected in our daily walk. Our minds influence every aspect of our lives; mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally. I believe we often forget this and accept whatever thoughts come into our minds as ... well okay. Scripture is filled with examples and the importance of our thoughts. Science has even verified this, but I love it that Dr. Leaf shows the scriptural truths behind what man has learned about our marvelous brains.
This is a full year of devotionals. It can even be a study if you would like. Everyday has a verse and a "brainy tip" as the author calls it. It is scientific information about our brains. These really had an impact along with the scripture on seeing the enormity of this and how it affects me. The author suggests you keep a journal. Each day write down questions you find yourself asking. Next answer them by applying them to your life. Lastly write down your personal thoughts and plans to implement what you have learned. This is far more than just a positive thinking book. It is tool to see and control your thoughts, changing your life and Christian walk. Pardon the pun but this is a "mind altering" book! I do wish the verses had been in the King James Version, but I easily looked them up.
I received this book from Baker Books in exchange for an honest review. The opinions I have stated are my own.
bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5A year of important conceptsNovember 5, 2018bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I have read a number of Dr. Leaf's books so I jumped at the idea of reading her insights on a daily basis for an entire year. She reminds readers that we need to take the power of the mind very seriously. The Bible says we have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:16) We must care for our minds and realize the impact of our choices. Dr. Leaf has written this devotional as sort of a guide and platform for incorporating these important truths.
I like the format for each day. There is a Scripture given. Sometimes the same Scripture appears for several days, allowing for a deeper understanding of the meaning of the passage and its impact on our lives. Next is a "Brainy Tip." I like them as they help us understand the science behind the concept. Then there is a reading to stimulate our thinking. Dr. Leaf encourages us to journal our thoughts each day.
Dr. Leaf comes back to some of the essential concepts, like the power of choice, time after time. I really appreciated the repetition as it helped cement the idea in my understanding. I really liked the idea of journaling. The concepts Dr. Leaf presents are deep and journaling helped me to think about them and contemplate how to incorporate them into my life.
I highly recommend this collection of thought provoking readings for a year. It is not your typical devotional. It contains concepts that are important for using our minds to the glory of God. It really helped me understand correct thinking patterns and how to make them a part of my life. I found it very positive and useful, so much so that I plan to reread it several times.
Food for thought: "Our ability to think, feel, and choose has the power of life and death and will determine the way we live our lives today and in the new creation." (7)
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Amanda5 Stars Out Of 5Nice giftNovember 1, 2018AmandaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love books that are meant to be savored and enjoyed in little bits at a time. I like having something to look forward to and feel as though this can be helpful in creating daily reminders for myself. Switch on Your Brain Every Day: 365 Readings for Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health by Dr. Caroline Leaf fits this bill perfectly.
This is a beautiful hardcover book that includes and ribbon bookmark and includes readings for every day of the year. Though I had to read through this book all at once rather than taking a year, I feel as though the amount written each day is the perfect amount to have a little reminder of mindful thinking. Each day includes a bit of scripture, a brainy tip which is a positive message and a note from the author with more information about these tips.
All of the messages are positive and give the reader an idea of how to think in a more mindful and healthful way. I enjoyed this book and think that it would be a nice gift this Christmas season.

Consisting of 365 very helpful and readable one-page devotions, each day consists of the following: appropriate Bible verse, "brainy tip" that focuses on a particular thought or subject, and then a more detailed summary of the day's subject.
Some days cover details about the human brain while others focus on how our thoughts affect our lives and how we, as God's creation, can think more in tune with how we are special in God's eyes. Will make an excellent gift for anyone who struggles in their thought life.
