    Editorial Reviews

This book is sane, funny, honest, powerful and moving in equal measure. Jason Roach does a marvellous job in presenting the Bible’s beautiful vision for sexuality in our broken world in a way that is utterly realistic and completely recognisable. Both sensitive and courageous, no-one - married or single, Chistian or non-Christian, could read ’Swipe Up' without laughing, rethinking and even shedding a tear. Read it, talk about, pass it on!

Jason helpfully gives us biblical truth and pastoral wisdom, wrapped up in a deeply honest and personal narrative. Rather than confront, he gently persuaded us that God offers a better way of navigating the pitfalls of modern romance and relationships

In this age of secular humanist, militant atheist and multifaith environment, Jason, has told his story of finding intimacy in all its forms of meaning through his life experiences and faith. He has very kindly let us in on his vulnerability and humanity. One of the main highlight of this book for me is the open invitation to consider what our society suggests about finding your personal and self gratifying options open to us to find sexual intimacy and fulfilment against the back drop of the concept of belief in the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has shown us the ultimate example in language, word and action of true love and sexual intimacy. The God of all flesh who has a purpose for our lives, a purpose we need to discover in His will through Jesus Christ. This book invites us to consider this option as a real way forward to finding true, long lasting fulfilling intimate love, both as Christians and non-Christians in a post-truth world.

This is first and foremost Jason’s story but listening to and learning from testimony is a key part of the Christian life. Yet you will also discover as you lean into Jason’s story that it is your story too. You will find yourself not always in the details of Jason’s life but in the Bible principles he brings to bear. And there you will find deep riches in a brief read.

I wouldn't classify myself a devout Christian, so it was very interesting getting a better understanding of the reasoning behind Christian marriage. This very honest and relatable account of the common struggles we face when it comes to love and relationships shows us that we all (Christian or not) have similar experiences and face similar obstacles when it comes to love and the desire for intimacy in our lives. Jason explains from his own personal experience, ways in which we can channel this constant longing for love and intimacy into loving God and the people around us.

This is a great book written with warmth, wit and honesty. Starting with his own experience and his own heart Jason brilliantly exposes the lies our culture tells us about sex, love and relationships and then winsomely shows us why what God says about these things, is truly good. The final chapter on how we can be better equipped to interact with the watching world on these issues with grace, humility and clarity is hugely helpful and a massive bonus!

Relationships. In a world of confusion the Bible's message has never been more needed. Here is a book packed with theological depth and insight written in a wonderfully engaging style. If you are looking for a brief book covering the core issues in relationships, from sexual relationships to singleness, from friendship to marriage and how these can be opportunities for reaching out to our world then this gem of a book covers them all with compassion and biblical insight.

A funny, honest and challenging account of the agonies and ecstasies of relationships. Jason takes us to the dizzying heights of Gods eternal story and ties that’s into the details of our lives – lives of passion, intimacy, sexuality, singleness , friendship and marriage. Big ideas, short chapters – definitely worth reading and passing on!

When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit shows us more and more of where our lives need to change now that we belong to Jesus. While there’s often overlap in the way we lived before and the way God calls us to live now, with some areas of life, we have to go back to the drawing board and simply start again.

Jason Roach is a pastor and former medical doctor from South London, and his new book, Swipe Up: A Better Way to do Love, Sex and Relationships has just released. He kindly took the time to answer some questions about the vision behind the book…

As a single guy, Swipe Up helps to cut through the complication of dating and relationships in 2019 and shines a light on the joy a loving God has for us. - Matt, 25 Personable and genuine, Jason understands the reality of living as a young adult today. Through his own story and struggles he shows how living faithfully committed to God's design is not only plausible and practical, but 'an honour we can never abandon'. - Hannah, 23 Jason helps us understand why no earthly relationship comes close to fulfilling our desires for intimacy, security or purpose in the way that a relationship with God through Christ does. Do read if you’re wanting to ground your relationship choices within a solid biblical framework. - Tim, 37 I've ordered 20 for our youth group—not only does it shine a light on romantic relationships but it brilliantly handles, singleness, friendship, the blessing of the church, and how all human love is rooted in who our great God of love has made us to be. - Nick, youth worker Swipe Up concisely conveys biblical wisdom and real-life insight. Recommended. - Nathanel, 30 A brilliantly honest and refreshingly open book, bringing a modern twist to God's love story with us. Roach clearly depicts the beauty and intimacy that singleness can hold. - Amy, 24Jason’s honesty is a real blessing in Swipe Up. He meets you where you are, in whatever scenario! This book has encouraged me that it’s not wrong to feel, gently demonstrating that God has created us as relational people for a reason - to point to his infinite love for us! - Milly, 26

This week you’ll be gazing at numerous screens that reinforce our culture’s fantasies of love, sex and relationships. Why not give up some of that time to gaze at the reality of God and his better love stories? Reading Jason’s personal and practical book will do you so much more good.

This book is deeply honest, real and human. Jason reflects on his own story through the lens of his faith in Jesus. He opens up a conversation about sex, relationships, intimacy and holiness. It is a conversation that the whole church needs to be having. This book will encourage you and challenge you, and at all times it will point you to Jesus.

I’m very thankful for this book and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Jason is both honest and realistic while also being witty and practical. This is a book for both single and the married people alike, because no matter who we are or where we’re at in life, we all need pointing to God’s better story for our lives and Jason does exactly that.

In a world where our western culture's narrative about sex and relationships so easily steals our minds, this little gem of a book helps us lift our gaze and see a far more beautiful story. Seamlessly weaving together personal experience and biblical truth, Jason Roach reminds us of God's astonishing love and the privilege it is to love others in ways that honour him. It's not a book of "don'ts" but a book that helps us rejoice in our risen Lord. Accessible, practical and wonderfully engaging - a great read for anyone desiring purity, intimacy and joy.

Jason Roach must have swallowed a truth pill to write this book! It’s so real about intimacy, loneliness, adolescence, singleness, marriage and friendship. Amidst the searing honesty, he shows us how he discovered an amazing map that enabled and us to stay clear of the storms. It’s a map and a story you’d be mad to miss. I’ll be thoroughly recommending it across the generations at All Souls.

Here is a gem of a little book explaining why God's blueprint for our sexuality isn't limiting, but is actually liberating. Jason combines personal story with powerful and pastoral application. And because it's  accessible and concise its the kind of book you can buy, read, and pass on.

I wished I’d had a book like this around when I first became a Christian in my early teens. Jason is so honest, clear and real. He gets who we are and who God is. I love “thanks, sorry, please and never” as a summary of the Bible on sex and the sexual revolution. It’s a great read, and you’ll be reading it again and giving it away to all your friends.
