It starts from the discovery of America to right before the start of the revolutionary war. I would highly recommend this book.
Melinda5 Stars Out Of 5excellent history readerMarch 5, 2011MelindaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book makes the period of colonization come alive. The events and people are made real and meaningful, connecting them to the past and present. It is definitely not dry and boring as most textbooks are. We are reading it aloud and discussing how previous actions affected what they did and how that affects us today. Get the series of all 3 books and read them in order to get the whole picture.
Anne Jemanden5 Stars Out Of 5August 2, 2006Anne JemandenUnlike most history books that rapid-fire a list of people, places, and dates, then jumps on to the next important period, this book focuses on a shorter time period, from the discovery of America through the American Revolution. Coffin "fleshes out" historical characters and makes American history more readable-and includes whole chapters on things that are interesting and deserve more space to explain the "who's" and "why's" than what a history textbook gives- a single paragraph. The pictures are black and white sketches, which may not appeal to a younger reader, but they're well done and an older student shouldn't have any trouble. (I'm an 11th grader).
