I am glad to see a revision of this book come to be. This was a seminary textbook which provided outstanding information concerning the authenticity and authorship of each Old Testament book. Archer substantiates single authorship of the Pentateuch and Isaiah, as well as an early date for Daniel with convincing information regarding a conservative view of the text. Additionally, he supports an early date for the Exodus, providing a quality refutation of a late date and a shorter Egyptian Sojourn.

My major concern is his treatment of the days of creation in Genesis. His revelatory day concept of the days of creation in which Archer does not see creation as taking place over a period of geological ages or in literal 24 hour periods time seems to present a middle ground which keeps a literal understanding of the term "yom" but applies it to how God revealed the acts of creation to Moses.

As students and parishioners have asked questions regarding Old Testament texts and chronology, I reach first for Archer's book as a solid, conservative source.

Archer's credentials are impressive, as is his knowledge, and he champions the direct verbal inspiration of the Old Testament.
