The Bookish GirlAge: 18-24Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great BookMay 19, 2016The Bookish GirlAge: 18-24Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is exactly what I needed, I am going to share something with you guys that I rarely talk about. It is the hard stuff, the stuff that we never want to talk about. I was raped as a teenager. It was a traumatizing experience that I feel I am constantly healing from.
This is the first and only book I have ever come across that tackles all of these intense topics. Things like pornography, rape, abortion, incest, and many other things. These are taboo subjects that sometimes churches don't want to take on, life groups don't want to talk about it. It would be better to stuff in a closet or pretend like it doesn't exist. This book opens those closed doors, and tells women, your story matters. That with God everything is going to be okay. With God, those horrible parts of you, can be cleansed and made new.
I can't begin to express how important books like these are for women. This book is important because it is a subject matter that effects us all. We know women who have or are struggling with the deep pain of sexual brokenness.
I was overwhelmed reading the honesty that the pages contained. Women putting their heart out. I can certainly relate to some of these feelings, experiences, and lies these women believed at one time or another.
The most amazing thing about this book for me was that it captured real life stories from its front to back cover of real struggles. How their hurts and broken lives were mended. How God brought back hope into their lives. Hope that no matter what happens in life, Jesus sees all and still loves you.
There are some great quotes in this book. My favorites are listed below.
"God is more interested in strengthening my character than He is about making me happy."
"There is nothing too broken for God to heal"
"Scars remind us where we have been, but they do not have to dictate where we are going"
I am so very thankful these women were brave enough to share their story with us. I hope you will check this book out.
I received a copy from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is...
"There is nothing too broken for God to heal" page 13
Isn't that beautiful and so true? If we will turn it over to Him.
The authors use Biblical scripture along with nine courageous women who tell their stories of hurt, pain, heartache, etc. and how He has healed each of them. Women who have been sexually abused, physically abused, cheated on etc., they all gave it over to God.
Another great quote...
"Scars remind us where we have been, but they do not have to dictate where we are going" page 89
I love this one, as everyone has scars of some type, some hidden, and some not. But our Lord can heal them all.
I'm thankful for every brave woman that shared her story for this book to written, and to the authors. It is a book I'm glad I chose to read. I recommend it to all women.

Alison5 Stars Out Of 5HIGHLY RECOMMEND.February 24, 2016AlisonQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I HIGHLY recommend this book. Surprised by the Healer shares the stories of nine courageous women, followed by the words of authors Dr. Juli Slattery and Linda Dillow, pointing the reader back to Jesus. I may not relate to the specifics in each womans story, but I cannot deny the need in my own heart to be transformed and healed by the Lord. These stories are masterfully told, sharing the depth of pain in order to demonstrate the depth of healing. But like any look into the face of sin and suffering, it is not easy to see. Even when graphic language is left out and they are tastefully told, what is shared as part of these stories can be heartbreaking to read. Yet, I think my heart needs these stories. I need to see Jesus for who he is. I caught glimpses of the character of my God from these nine womens stories that I simply cant see from my own story. While these stories are told from the perspective of women, the power of our God is certainly not limited to gender. I would recommend this to any follower of Jesus who wants to be changed by him. A wholehearted 5/5 for me.
