Secrets! Everyone in the family has secrets that they keep from one another! Maddy is the female protagonist who doesn't want her family to know her romantic life and her career have ended. When her grandmother goes missing, Maddy and her two sisters reconnect at the family beach house but tensions are high. All three sisters and their grandmother want to appear to have perfect lives.

Neighbor Connor Murphy is a great male protagonist who tries to be helpful! Summer by the Tides is well written and touching as the family learns to share and trust again. You will enjoy this book by Denise Hunter! I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

I have yet to pick up a Denise Hunter book that didn't suck me in, make me love her characters, and keep me up WAY too late trying to finish it. Summer By the Tides is no exception! This story of three sisters, thrown together by their love and concern for their grandmother, has some seriously gut-wrenching moments.

When Maddy Monroe is betrayed by her boyfriend, she loses both her love interest and her job. Receiving word that her grandmother has disappeared gives her something to concentrate on besides her misery so she travels to Sea Haven, North Carolina to begin the search. On arrival, she discovers that the neighbor who called her also called both of her sisters - her older, FEUDING sisters who haven't spoken to each other in 20 years. Can they navigate the tension in the place their family's cracks finally splintered, to find a relationship that sister's are supposed to have?

Suspicious of all men, Maddy is doubly suspicious of her grandmother's neighbor, Connor Murphy. Did their grandmother enlist his help to get all of the girls in one place? When he asks for her temporary help running his restaurant, she begins to see the man of honor behind the beach bum image he projects. As sparks start to fly between the two of them, can Maddy take a step of faith and find a man she can believe in?

Told from both present day, and 20 years ago perspectives, Summer By the Tides, shows the Monroe family in all their dysfunction. The tension between the sisters snaps, but their deep grief also comes through. Connor was a joy to read about.

Romance readers will enjoy Summer by the Tides, as will, I think, women's fiction readers. The conflict between the sisters is one that I'm sure is played out in various variations all over. Denise Hunter fans all over will rejoice that she has a new book published. I know I did! I highly recommend!

Summer by the Tides is the perfect summer beach read! Denise Hunter is a favorite author of many contemporary romance readers because of her swoon-worthy characters, her captivating storylines, and her ability to weave the characters' faith seamlessly into her novels. Summer by the Tides focuses on the estrangement between the Monroe sisters, but there is still plenty of romance in the novel that fans of Denise Hunter will love. This is a story of forgiveness, new beginnings, and finding true love.

The three Monroe sisters (Maddy, Nora, and Emma) all rush to their grandmother's beach house in Sea Haven, North Carolina after her neighbor Connor Sullivan calls and tells them that their grandmother is missing. Betrayal from long ago still haunts the estranged sisters as they work together to find their grandmother. Despite initially disliking each other, sparks begin to fly between Maddy and Connor, but Maddy is afraid of heartbreak and struggles to trust again.

Connor Sullivan is not the typical hero of Denise Hunter's, with his long golden hair often tied back and his scruffy face. Maddy initially thinks that Connor has the careless look of a beach bum, but he quickly finds his way into her heart. This handsome, swoon-worthy character will definitely find a place in readers' hearts everywhere. New revelations and shocking family secrets come to light that the readers will not expect.

Readers of women's fiction, contemporary romance, and fans of authors such as Beth K. Vogt, Robin Lee Hatcher, and Becky Wade will love this highly recommended novel by Denise Hunter. For readers who have never read a Denise Hunter novel, this is the perfect opportunity! You will not be disappointed!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

"It's not the how, Maddy. It's the Who."

Denise Hunter has an amazing ability to grab hold of your heart and imagination no matter what topic or setting she writes about. This newest release has three sisters converging on their grandmother's seaside cottage in North Carolina while they search for their grandmother who has gone MIA, and all three are broken, hurting, and insecure. There is plenty of backstory to the tension that suffocates the sisters and, though this is not a suspense novel, the pieces of the backstory that slowly come together via flashbacks had me turning the pages with anticipation. The dialogue is fun and lively, the characters are deeply layered and multi-faceted and so lovable, and the writing is easy to read. If you are a fan of contemporary romance, you will love this book.

Maddy, our heroine who has been hurt by her ex-boyfriend, is jobless, direction-less, and hopeless as she tries to figure out what happened to her grandmother. She's fun, creative, and motivated but wary of strangers and doesn't trust easily. She's also the peacemaker within the sisters and the strained relationship of her older two sisters makes things even worse as they all worry about their grandmother. Connor, the swoon-worthy neighbor next door, has also seen his share of pain and hurt and chooses to bury himself in work and helping those around him. He's the one who calls the sisters together when he realizes that his elderly neighbor is missing and he and Maddy get off on the wrong foot from the beginning. But as they spend more time together, Connor's overwhelming charm, honesty, loyalty, compassion, and steadfastness help Maddy re-evaluate her first impression. The encouraging theme of granting and accepting forgiveness as well as overcoming fear with love is prominent in the story.

Don't miss this awesome summer read! I am hoping for a Hallmark movie from this book....

'She'd left God in the dust quite some time ago.'

Maddy is left reeling from an especially vicious betrayal, both professional and emotional when she is called back to her grandmother's house in Sea Haven, NC. It seems her grandmother is missing and no one has any clue as to where she is. Her grandmother's neighbor, Connor Sullivan, has called Maddy and her two sisters, Emma and Nora and when they converge on the old house, emotions run rampant between Emma and Nora from old hurts and betrayals.

The sisters get busy packing up family belongings in their grandmother's home, and recall the good times they had their each summer as children. But there are many secrets in this family, secrets and betrayals that threaten their hearts. Tensions are high as jealousy, resentment and pain come against this family. Will they ever be able to put aside the past and be close again? Or will they just give in to defeat and go their separate ways?

Meanwhile, Connor Sullivan is beginning to have feelings for Maddy as she is for him. But Maddy is bound and determined never to love again after her most recent break up. After all, if you hide your heart, it can't get hurt. Right? Maybe not.

Denise Hunter has long been a favorite of mine and I never fail to enjoy her books. She knows how to dig right into the reader's heart and pull them into the story completely. Even her secondary characters are meaningful and good to know. She weaves the spiritual theme throughout this story, while capturing the complete emotional make up of her characters. This one moved me deeply and I found myself crying several times. Well done! I highly recommend Summer By The Tides.
