Simply hilarious. Imagine a series of vignettes which properly belong in a stand-up comedy act, all making fun of the Americanisms, consumerisms and a host of other "-isms" that have invaded the church. Only a pastor's kid could pull this off. This book is designed to tell both those in the Church and out, that sometimes Christians just do outlandish, ridiculous and funny things and we need to learn to laugh at ourselves when we do. At times outrageously cynical, Acuff also has a higher aim in sight. He skewers the sanctimonious, but never the holy. Interspersed with the amusing observations are some serious and touching accounts that bring you back to reality. In the opinion of my teenage kids, Acuff hits the perfect note of combining idealism and cynicism ââ¬â no simple feat! I concur. This book as perfectly narrated by the author in a manner that no one else could. This book is an "I've got to come up for air" book. You know, when you have listened to a theologically deep book and need some relief? This one is it. However, you are warned: If you are easily offended, give this one a pass.
