Tell us a little about yourself. Dr. Linda Colbert is a licensed counselor, educator, author and conference speaker. She is a strong advocate for women's health issues, especially women struggling with spiritual and mental health concerns. She serves in ministry with her husband, Pastor Aubrey Wilford Colbert.
What was your motivation behind this project? As a bible teacher for the Women's Ministry at my church and a licensed counselor, I observed that many women were struggling in unhealthy relationships, living beneath their potential because of fear, guilt, and shame, and many struggled with spiritual confusion, and physical and mental health challenges. Many of the answers that these women were seeking were addressed in God's Word. I wanted them to know that they were not alone in their struggles and that God has addressed every issue faced by us in His infallible Word. I wanted to give them biblical solutions for their everyday concerns and to teach us how to find the courage to write our own stories, and that it is never solely about us. God has a wonderful plan for our lives and He wants to use our tragic life experiences to convert and strengthen others.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that the readers will gain insight into the spiritual causes of their struggles and learn how to rely on the unseen presence and power of Almighty God to help them overcome the many challenges they face. I hope that readers will gain insight from the lives of the ten biblical women chosen for this book, learn valuable lessons about life and living, and learn how to live victoriously, even in the midst of life's most challenging and traumatic circumstances.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Working on this project helped me to appreciate the immense importance of practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, studying God's Word, and spending quiet time in meditation and contemplation. Through this writing I experienced the manner in which the Holy Spirit interprets the text and guides one in any teaching or writing endeavor. It is my prayer that the everyone who reads The Struggles of Unloved Women will be encouraged, enlightened, and develop an even greater desire to know God in a more profound and personal way.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have had the privilege of reading and hearing the most gifted and devoted pastors, authors, and teachers expound upon God's Word, which has made a tremendous impact on my life and the lives of many others who have suffered some of the most heartbreaking and devastating life events. I was inspired to write this book based on the many stories shared by the women in my classes and the bible lessons that we studied together.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I want the readers to know how important it is to learn the lessons that these ten biblical women teach us. I hope that the readers will be challenged and inspired by these stories and will gain the courage to tell their own stories. It is my desire that the readers will appreciate the unseen presence of Almighty God in all of our struggles and learn how to emerge from life's bitter trials more enlightened, determined, refined, and productive.
