Every story whispers his name.
A Bible like no other, The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God's great story of salvation--and at the center of their own story too!
The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the story beneath all the stories in the Bible. At the center of all is a baby, the child upon whom everything will depend. From Noah, to Moses, to the great King David—every story points to him. He is the missing piece to the puzzle—the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle.
The Jesus Storybook Bible makes an excellent gift at Christmas, when we all remember that he is the puzzle piece that makes all the other pieces in our lives fit.

What is it about small children? Copyright 2016, Sally Lloyd-Jones
Have you noticed the super powers small children wield?
I was riding the NYC subway one morning, when the doors opened and into the car walked a little child.
She was maybe 2.
Instantly, all of us-these defended New Yorkers, all avoiding eye contact, all guarding our space-were transformed. We smiled at her. At her mother. At each other.
Her gentleness disarmed us. Barriers of race and age and status vanished.
She changed everything.
When people asked Jesus, "Who's the greatest in your Kingdom?" Jesus showed them a little child and said, "Become like this little child."
It's not always all about what we teach children.
It's about what they teach us.
I've learned that from writing for children. Writing for children keeps you honest. You have to dig deeper. Work harder. Understand it better. Your job is to distill-to take the profound and make it simple enough for a child to understand.
When I was writing THE JESUS STORYBOOK BIBLE, I couldn't rely on jargon. A little child has no concept of what sin is, for instance. I had to find other ways to describe it. I wrote that: sin is not just about breaking the rules, it's breaking God's heart; it's like poison that makes your heart sick and stops it from working properly; it's like running away from God and hiding in the shadows.
Writing for children demands nothing short of excellence.
The funny thing is-if you write with the excellence that children deserve you reach everyone. C S Lewis said: "No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally-and often far more-worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond."
Excellence, it turns out, is the most inclusive thing.
THE JESUS STORYBOOK BIBLE has broken out of the boundaries typical for a children's bible storybook-read by college students, theologians, pastors, couples; read in schools, prisons, old people's homes. (It's so popular with adults that we have published their own edition: THE STORY OF GOD'S LOVE FOR YOU.)
I think it has something to do with that place inside of us all that remains a child still, the place God loves to speak to us-the place where we are undefended, humble, open to wonder. Open him. The place that tiny child spoke to us all, in that NYC subway car that morning.
In THE JESUS STORYBOOK BIBLE I captured the plotline of the Bible. As adults when do we ever hear that plotline? Even if we go to church regularly, we may never hear the whole story in one sitting.
But when you distill the story down so that you can read it in one sitting, immediately it is startling. Because most of us think we know what the Bible is about-and it's not good. We think it's a book of rules you follow so God will love you. Or a book of heroes you copy so God will love you.
But it's none of those things.
It's most of all a Story.
The Story of a God who breaks into History and comes down to rescue his children. A God who moves heaven and earth to be near them, to love them-though it would cost him everything.
The Story of a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. The Story of a brave Prince who leaves his palace, his throne-everything-to rescue the one he loves.
The Bible is simply this: THE STORY OF GOD'S LOVE FOR YOU.
And I don't know anyone-young or old-who doesn't need to hear that story.

What if every little person could grow up knowing that she is lovely because God loves her?
What if everything in the sky and under the sky were suddenly revealed as mirrors, reflecting Gods huge I LOVE YOU.
What if the Bible could be understood NOT as a book of rules or as a dusty collection of stories about perfect people, but instead as a love story that really happened, full of adventure and featuring a daring rescue?
It appears that author, Sally Lloyd-Jones may have asked herself these questions before sitting down to write the text of The Story of Gods Love for You.
With her eyes and mind lashed securely to the biblical record, Sally has woven the familiar Bible stories with elegant descriptions in which God hovers like a mother bird over His creation and in which the sun dances and gleams and bounds across the sky in a race with Mary Magdalene on Resurrection Day.
With theological precision and straightforward parlance that explains and depicts without talking down, The Story of Gods Love for You demonstrates that every subplot in the Bible from the Garden of Eden to the New Jerusalem shines with laser clarity on two over-arching themes:
1. The Terrible Lie: God doesnt really love you, and He doesnt want you to be happy.
2.The Great Rescue: Gods secret rescue plan to get His children back is based in His Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love. When the rescue is accomplished, His children will believe in His love and delight in His world a perfect home once again.
With text taken directly from her award-winning picture book (The Jesus Storybook Bible), Sally has created a chapter book that highlights the big-picture, narrative arc of redemption. For example, in her account of Noahs rescue from the flood, Sally describes the aching and yet majestic truth that the rainbow, Gods war bow, is aimed away from humanity with bulls-eye accuracy toward the heart of heaven. God would let His arrow fly and it would pierce His own Son.
The arrangement is perfect for young readers or for reading aloud during family devotional time. It will assist the new believer who wants an overview that lays out the narrative arc of Scripture, and will inspire the seasoned saint who wants a refreshing reminder that Jesus is the Baby who would bring laughter to the whole world, the Prince who would break His own heart to heal humanity, the only Rule-keeper, and the Rescuer of His people.
If youre planning a read-through-the-Bible project for 2016, sit down for a couple of hours with Sallys book or read it to a favorite little person! Let The Story of Gods Love for You tune your soul to the truth that every story in the Bible whispers the name of Jesus.
Then . . . open the pages of Scripture and let your heart rejoice.

It really catches attention and draws the reader in. It's a fun way of describing the Bible. I love t he way Ms. Lloyd-Jones writes. It seems simple, but at the same time it's really complex. There was some revision of scripture, I'd memorized some of the verses already and I didn't like the way it was rewritten. Other than that, it was a very good book. Recommended for kids and young adults. Must read.
Katie5 Stars Out Of 5A Beautiful, Story-Based Summary of ScriptureNovember 9, 2015KatieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Story of Gods Love for You, by Sally Lloyd-Jones, illustrated by Jago, is a beautiful, Christ-centered, story-based summary of Scripture.
If you are familiar with the childrens Jesus Storybook Bible, then you will be familiar with this new version, as the text is exactly the same. In this version, the text reads as a chapter book. The ornate illustrations are absent from The Story of Gods Love for You, but the text remains the same.
If you havent read the childrens version, then I highly recommend taking a look at this beautiful release of Lloyd-Jones telling of the story of scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, with every story pointing to Jesus. The text is simple enough for those who are not familiar with the Bible to become familiar with the overarching themeGods redemptive plan to bring about the rescue of his people through His Son, Jesus. Any who are familiar with the Bible will find the simplicity of the text to be a beautiful reminder of the truths of the gospel.
The Story of Gods Love for You could be a useful tool in evangelism, as Christ is central and the cohesive theme of the Bible is easy to follow. The complete text of the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, could be written off as too long or too confusing by someone who is new to the Bible, but The Story of Gods Love for You is neither long nor confusing. To be clear, it is not a replacement for the reading and study of Scripture itself; rather, it is a helpful tool that highlights the gospel.

Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMOctober 8, 2015FitzysmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have a secret confession to make. Any book with the name Sally Lloyd-Jones on it I want. I dont even have to open it up to know that I want it. Her name on the cover is enough to make me put it in my cart. Why is that you ask? Its because I can be assured that she is going to take the readers hand and draw them to Jesus.
For years now we have been enjoying her beautiful story books with all the littles in our lives. She teams up with a talented artist and the two of them create a masterpiece that brings the wonderful words and concepts of Scripture to life. If youve not enjoyed one of her books with your kids you are missing out.
In the back of my mind I have always thought it would be lovely to read an adult book written by her. She has such a gentle way with words that quietly brings the Gospel into your reading experience. Well, my wish has somewhat come true. With the release of The Story Of Gods Love For You I can now unashamedly bask in the beautiful words that bring me into the presence of God.
The Story of Gods Love For You is the adult version of The Jesus Storybook Bible. The words are the same but it is packaged for an adult to read. There are forty-four short chapters that lead you through the beautiful love story of the Bible. This book is a must for all the worn out mommas out there!
It would be perfect for those moments when you just need to regroup. Think about where you go to escape the madness. Is it the bathroom, the laundry room, or even the car in the garage? Wherever it is keep a copy of this book there and when you think you are about to lose your marbles go there and read a chapter. Youll be exposed to the flawed people that God chose to use to bring about His perfect plan. Every time I read a chapter it reminds me that none of us are perfect but God is and has a part designed just for you in the midst of the crazy day-to-day.
Maybe you're an empty-nester like me. I recently took it with us on a business trip and read it aloud to my husband as we were driving. I simply could not put it down! Not only did it make the trip go faster but we were blessed with the beautiful redeeming love story that God wrote just for us.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to be covered in the story of Gods great love for us.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
