Now A Major Motion Picture Starring Robert Carlyle and Kiefer Sutherland Waking from a dream, I suddenly realized where I was: in the Death Housein a prison camp by the River Kwai. I was a prisoner of war, lying among the dead, waiting for the bodies to be carried away so that I might have more room. When Ernest Gordon was twenty-four he was captured by the Japanese and forced, with other British prisoners, to build the notorious Railroad of Death, where nearly 16,000 Prisoners of War gave their life. Faced with the appalling conditions of the prisoners camp and the brutality of the captors, he survived to become an inspiring example of the triumph of the human spirit against all odds. To End All Wars is Ernest Gordons gripping true story behind both the Academy Award-winning film The Bridge on the River Kwai starring Alec Guinness and the new film To End All Wars directed by David Cunningham.
PrincessAustin TXAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't put it down everyone should read!May 28, 2012PrincessAustin TXAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 5One of my favorite old movies is the Bridge over the river Kwai, somehow God lead me to the true story of what happened during those events. The movie version pales in comparison to the miracles that took place in the pit of hell these men found themselves. And how dignity and heroism was alive in the midst of such depravity. And just how God moved in the hearts of these men in the middle of their darkest days. It is an incredible true story and everyone should read this book believer or non believer like the Hiding Place, it will impact your faith forever. Recently I watch the movie version of this book and it was difficult to watch but again it could not tell the details that were in the book fully. MUST READ THE BOOK and share it especially a men's group. I'm a real girly girl but I so touched by this war story. Warning it has extreme graphic violent content.
James Dezellem5 Stars Out Of 5April 7, 2010James DezellemOne of the best books I've ever read. Interesting and inspiring. It shows how the worst of circumstances can be overcome by the tangible relationship with The Creator.
David Kolp5 Stars Out Of 5September 13, 2007David KolpErnest Gordon was a captain in the Scottish Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders regiment serving in Sumatra at the beginning of WWII. He and those who served with him were taken prisoners and forced to build the Burma railroad, including the infamous "Bridge over the River Kwai". The cost was high, 60,000 Allied POWs and 270,000 Asian workers were made salves, for each mile of the railroad 393 lives were lost. They saw how low man can sink but they also saw, by the power of the Almighty God, how high man can rise. This is an inspiring true story, well worth reading. Through these trials God molded and changed many men giving them "the will to survive and the courage to forgive", who after the war used the compassion and love God showed them the help there fellow man.
John Sagely5 Stars Out Of 5July 18, 2007John SagelyThe most real, the most honest, and the most humbling story in a lifetime. You will not go untouched.
