This is a truly great and highly-recommended book that should be read by all parents to their children and grandchildren alike. I read this book right through over a couple of weekends so as to absorb the lessons contained within its pages. The stories, though written late 19th-early 20th century, are as relevant today as they were when first written. Given the times now upon us, it will help children (and adults) to reflect on what is right and why so. I found the stories and poems to keep my attention and urge those of you who have come across this book, to buy a copy, you'll not be disappointed. As a 50 year old, I both learned to see new ways of relating to others and a few new words as well.

My nine year old son and I read a story from this book nearly every evening before bedtime. The ideas in the book have made a strong impression on him. Only a few items are not stories, but just "instructions." Most of the stories sound like true happenings of boys or girls who either made the right choices or made wrong choices. Some of the stories compare two boys' actions and make clear which way was the better way to behave. The stories emphasize hard work and honesty.
