Author Bio

Tommy grew up in poverty in a welfare family. His alcoholic father was violently abusive and in and out of prison due to drunkenness and illegal activities. His mother was completely illiterate, but she knew Tommy was going to be a "preacher man someday because God told her." Tommy dropped out of school after the 6th grade and eventually pursued a life of crime until he met Sister Goldie in Venice Beach, CA. when he was 17 and on the run from the law. Sister Goldie led him to the Lord and the Azusa Street saints. His career included security work, and he was a licensed Private Investigator.

I thought this was an awesome book on the Power of God. Every page was exciting and the book made you hunger for more of God. It made you say, I want that! I want what those wonderful people of God had! I found it easy to read and follow. My daughter on the other hand is reading the book, and she says the author jumped around a lot, and she is finding it harder to follow. Where I didn't find that at all. That the people that are written about in the book lived it, and these are their actual stories that came from their own mouths I find fascinating. It is not a book that was written by someone just going back and doing research on Azusa, these people experienced it!

Reading about the Azusa Street revival was an eye-opening experience as to what God can do and I believe wants to do again. This book will change the way you think about your own dedication to our God. Sometimes the stories jump around and makes it a little difficult to keep track but other than that it is an easy read that you will not want to put down. Show us your Glory again God in 2013-14!!

Wow! Fascinating story of the revival and the miracles that took place on Azusa Street from April 1906 - November 1909 where the presence of God inhabited a former warehouse. During that time, Tommy Welchel lived among the Azusa Street Saints and got to hear their testimonies first hand and see many of the specific events that took place. This book is his recollection of those events as told to Michelle Griffith. The events he witnessed and heard directly about were nothing short of miraculous. Miracles took place several times each day which included healings for the blind, lame and deformed. There were reports of limbs growing back into place, eyes filling into sockets, lungs being restored and more. There was almost no type of miracle that wasn't witnessed on a regular basis during this time.

Azusa Street was also the first fully integrated church in America with Caucasians and African Americans sitting right next to each other. The preacher claimed that after becoming a Christian that you became a new creature in Christ and then there was only one race that everyone belonged to. During the time of the Azusa Street miracles, it was prophesied by a few different people that an even greater and bigger revival would take place in another 100 years. It's an exciting thought, since we are now living at that very time.

The writing style skipped around to tell the story of many different preachers and saints involved with the miracles on Azusa Street. There were so many different people and events that it was sometimes difficult to find the flow of a story, but I am thankful for the numerous accounts that were recorded.

I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.
