Publisher's Description

Sex trafficking is currently a hot news topic, but it is not a new problem or just a problem in "other" countries. Every year, an estimated 300,000 American children are at risk of being lured into the sex trade, some as young as eight years old. It is thought that up to 90 percent of victims are never rescued.

Stolen is the true story of one survivor who escaped--more than once. First recruited while staying with her family at a hotel in Miami Beach, Katariina Rosenblatt was already a lonely and abused young girl who was yearning to be loved. She fell into the hands of a confident young woman who pretended friendship but slowly lured her into a child prostitution ring. For years afterward, a cycle of false friendship, threats, drugs, and violence kept her trapped.

As Kat shares her harrowing experiences, readers will quickly realize the frightening truth that these terrible things could have happened to any child--a neighbor, a niece, a friend, a sister, a daughter. But beyond that, they will see that there is real hope for the victims of sex trafficking. Stolen is more than a warning. It is a celebration of survival that will inspire.

Sex trafficking has been around for a long time and in many countries even our own but it is growing by leaps and bounds. The number of children becoming victims has risen at a frightening rate. I wanted to read this book to know what we as a nation and families are truly up against. What I learned was surprising.

Ms. Rosenblatt very tastefully and discreetly shared her heartbreaking story of being a casualty child sex trafficking. I gained even more insight by her telling her story through her eyes as a child, their confusion, vulnerability, and innocence. Her account is one of courage and strength. She was drawn in 3 times and with the Lords help escaped.

This sordid business has been fueled by youth having unlimited access to the internet in emails, Facebook, private chatrooms cell phones and texting. These tools have made it easy for the traffickers to prey on our kids. I also learned that they look for certain characteristics in children they target. This means boys and girls, some as young as the age of 9, but the average age is 12 14 years.

She said they seek out children that are from homes of abuse, neglect, unstable marriages, and unsupervised in their activities and friends. The recruiters offer a child the love, attention, listening ear, and concern they lack and crave. After securing the childs trust, promising them the family they always wanted, they kidnap them and force them into being sex slaves. The children are held there by force, fear, addiction to drugs and even a twisted sense of loyalty, thinking their pimps are the only ones that care about them.

This is not a mere autobiography; it goes much further. The author accepted Christ as her Savior at a Billy Graham crusade when she was 12. Just 1 year before her first involvement. Burned into her mind and heart from that night was Mr. Graham saying, Remember this: God will never leave you or forsake you. God was to speak this to her many times in the years to come when she did not know what to do or where to turn.

I saw a beautiful testimony of Gods love and personal involvement our lives. No matter how far we go into sin, or distant we become to the Lord, He still loves us and seeks to draw us back to Him. God never gave up on her. She shares how He rescued her and set her life on track to serve Him. She went on to go to college and obtained a PhD in conflict analysis and resolution. In addition she earned a LLM graduate law degree in intercultural human rights. The author works close with the FBI and Homeland Security to intervene and free children. In government she initiated laws to reform the labels place on trafficked youth that made them the criminals. She also established contacts with Christian groups to help children saved with physical, emotional, and many other needs to heal and live a normal life.

Every person, not just parents, that has children in their life they love and care about needs to read this book! No one can say it wont happen to us. This book is a wakeup call not only to what is happening but also to the need to be very involved in our childrens lives. An excellent book!

I received this book free from Revell, which requires an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This book will make you cry!! Katriina is an abused 13 year old girl who doesn't feel loved! One day an older girl comes around and befriends her, and she feels like she finally has a friend. Mary takes an interest in her listening to what Kat has to say, which makes her more endearing to her. One day she goes to some meetings with her mother where Billy Graham was speaking and she told her mom that was what she wanted and went up front, the words she remembered him saying were: God will never leave you or forsake you. Mary helped her to loose some weight and built up her self-esteem. Mary was grooming her for a life she didn't know about, Mary took her and tried to sell her to a man for $550 but God intervened on her behalf. "Others came to help Kat make it up to Mary" they tried to kill her God intervened again! They moved but she was back to having no self-esteem and started hanging out with other kids who had been molested or abused! One of those became a good friend and after awhile found herself in a sex-trafficking ring. As I was reading this book I wondered how a girl could get pulled back in time after time, what a horrible time she went through and I would never want to see this happen to anyone so if you have daughters or friends with daughters you should tell them about it, I never knew it was happening all over. This book is about how God can bring triumph from tragedy!

From the Back Cover: There is hope, even on the darkest of days

Katariina Rosenblatt was a lonely and abused young girl, yearning to be loved, wanting attention. That made her the perfect target. On an ordinary day, she met a confident young womansomeone Kat wished she could be likewho pretended to be a friend while slowly luring her into a child trafficking ring. A cycle of false friendships, threats, drugs, and violence kept her trapped.

As Kat shares her harrowing experiences, her ultimate escape, and her passionate efforts to now free other victims, youll see that not only is sex trafficking happening frighteningly close to homeits also something that can be stopped. Stolen is a warning, a celebration of survival, and a beacon of hope that will inspire you.

Years ago I saw a TV show where a family came to New York as tourists and by accident the youngest daughter was separated for a moment and in that time was kidnapped. She was then used for sex trafficking. I cannot imagine a greater crime against a person than this. One moment you have a normal life the next moment you are a slave to be used for sex and there is no escape. Yet in the middle of all this darkness Ms. Rosenblatt found hope. There was a way to escape. And not only did she escape she used her experience to found Stolen OnesThere Is H.O.P.E. For Me, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to freeing other victims of human trafficking. This is a remarkable story of rescue, redemption and reaching out to others. Sex trafficking does not only affect the person involved it affects all of us. Knowing what is going on gives us a tool so that we can help effect change. Everyone should read this book and be aware of what is going on right here at home.

Katariina is a young 13 year old girl with little to no self esteem and a rocky family life. She is befriended by a nice enough young lady who seems to REALLY care about her. She shows interest in her life, takes her places, and is always punctual in bringing her home. She builds Katariina's trust as well as her mother's. Only after a few months does this new friend make her move. Katariina's vulnerability stemmed from not having a home life where she felt loved and cared about. She was susceptible to accepting a false love from strangers to replace what she was lacking in her own childhood. She was also abused, and watched her mother tolerate verbal and physical abuse.

This book addresses the needs children have for receiving the love they need, being confident and have a good level of self-esteem. While many times their physical needs are being provided for - how about their emotional inner needs? Are they learning that God is the only one who can fill their emptiness? Those are the things I want to strive for in my family. I don't just want to love them - I want them to KNOW it!!

Katariina's story is heart-wrenching, and yet, I can see this happening all around me. We have no idea how many children come from abusive homes, or have parents who work way too many hours to be there and care for them. These kids are vulnerable! Many have possibly endured physical, verbal and sexual abuse. How many kids are out there looking for significance, wondering if anyone cares about them, and them responding to the very first person who gives them any trace of attention.

This book also inspired me, to really love the kids I am blessed to be around. I may have no idea what their lives hold, and yet, I could be a listening ear, someone who cares, and leads them to God without exploitation or expectation of anything in return. These kids need someone who sees them as God sees them, a soul that HE loves and died for, not just another object or statistic. I think this book should be read by all!! It is eye-opening! We can do something about trafficking, and turning a cold shoulder, pretending it isn't happening or ignoring the facts doesn't solve the problem. Read this book!!

Not for a young audience due to mature nature of content.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I recently finished the book Stolen by Katariina Rosenblatt, PhD, this was an eye-opening book on the horrors of sex trafficking and how it happens here in the United States. While it was a very good book however it was not a book that I enjoyed. I don't mind reading about serious topics and generally enjoy it yet I could not connect well with this book. It seemed like the author wrote the book purposefully just to promote her organization There is H.O.P.E. For Me, Inc.

The book was eye-opening in revealing just how easily children can fall into sex trafficking and how manipulative the people can be. It also goes to show me the many reasons I have to be thankful that I never fell into anything like this. It did well to explain why people find it so hard to escape from this kind of lifestyle even when they want to do just that.

The authors story is an amazing one, because she shares the ups and downs that she has faced to become free. All in all it was a good book, just not one I felt a personal connection with.
