Blacklisted in the photography business over a controversial shot, Avery Tate answered an ad for a crime scene photographer. She expected to be laughed at, but crime scene analyst Parker Mitchell hired her outright--and changed her life. But six months ago, when her feelings for Parker became too strong, she left his employ to sort out her heart.
Now, for the first time, Avery is facing the world that rejected her to attend the gallery opening of a photography exhibit and support her best friend, who modeled for the show. But the only image of her friend is a chilling photo of her posing as if dead--and the photographer insists he didn't take the shot. Worse, her friend can't be found. She immediately calls Parker for help. As Avery, Parker, and his friends in law enforcement dig into the mystery, they find themselves face-to-face with a relentless and deadly threat.

While investigating the disappearance of her best friend Avery Tate is forced to team back up with her former employer crime scene expert Parker Mitchell.
As Parker and Avery dive into the darker side of the art to find Skylar, a inspiring art model. Soon they discover that Skylar image has turned up in a series of photographs that depicts a person's death, but upon closer inspection it is discovered that Skylar photo's are more authentic then staged.
I thought Avery was a beautifully written character. She struggles with her past and feels guilty about it because as a Christian she is a new creation in Christ and God has forgiven her, so why does she struggle with accepting God's forgiveness. I loved this because how many Christians wrestle with this issue?
These two made a great couple, they work well together and they relied on each other strengths both on and off the case.
We also get to revisit most of the character's from the first book, which is always fun.
Still Life is a suspense filled, page-turning book that will keep the reader needing to know what is on the next page.
LGHudson5 Stars Out Of 5DYNAMIC!November 24, 2017LGHudsonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Book 2 in the Chesapeake Valor Series is a thriller! It can stand alone but it would be appreciated more if the Series was read in order. This is the story of Avery Tate (crimescene photographer) and Parker Mitchell (crimescene analyst) as they work to solve the mystery surrounding Averys missing friend. Along the way Avery must come face to face with things and people from her past. Excellent character development. The plot will keep you rapidly turning the pages. And the ending ... you will want MORE!
touchdownOHAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Still LifeJuly 8, 2017touchdownOHAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I preordered this book without reading any reviews, something I always do with this author. In some ways it's my least favorite and in others my favorite. I felt the book went in too many different directions too fast. I couldn't keep up with all the people and their pasts that apparently I was supposed to remember from book one. I even had to go back through parts of book one. After I finished reading it, I read some reviews. A few people felt the same way. The writing wasn't quite as smooth as her other books. I did enjoy it. I really liked the fact that when the characters spoke of religion they actually talked of repenting, forgiveness and living for the Lord. The author even mentioned that word that most authors don't dare to mention. HELL. Yes it's real and exists. Bravo to the author. Looking forward to the next book.

I just love all her books; this one included! I loved the relationship between Avery and Parker. I enjoyed the suspense on every page. I like how we get a feel for the characters for her next book so we aren't just being introduced at the beginning of their story. "Still Life" also is an awesome reminder that no matter what you have done in the past, God forgives when you give your heart to him. He's always a prayer away. I'm anxiously awaiting for the next in the series!

ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Faith * Love * Books: Thrilling, spine tingling romance from Dani Pettrey!April 26, 2017ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Dani Pettrey adds another gripping novel to her Chesapeake Valor series with Still Life. From beginning to end, this book keeps you guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out, a new clue would surface and I'd have to reassess. I absolutely LOVED that about this book.
I'm so glad I got to catch back up with Griffin, Finley, Kate, Declan, and Tanner but I loved Avery and Parker's story. At the beginning, we see Avery and Parker both struggling with things in their past as well as their feelings for each other. In true Pettrey style, they are caught on a wild ride that brings them closer to each other and in the end, to love.
I loved that the focus of the book, besides the mystery and romance (of course), was on Avery's struggle to let go of her past. How many of you have been there? I know I have. Once we become new creations in Christ, our past is just that - the past. Avery knew God had forgiven her, wiped her sins and past clean, but she struggled with forgiving herself.
If you like thrilling stories, with spine tingling moments (even at the end..), a dash of romance, and of course a happy ending, Dani Pettrey's Still Life will not disappoint.
