Roanna Weilmeier5 Stars Out Of 5February 9, 2010Roanna WeilmeierGood Christmas story to read with our 6 year old, along with The Christmas Baby + A Shepherd's Christmas. He has even started reading them by himself!
Sara Hartman5 Stars Out Of 5March 9, 2006Sara HartmanThis lovely little book allows modern-day readers to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth. Cynthia Hinkle's lyrical rhymes and Johanna van der Sterre's simple pastel illustrations combine for an enjoyable rendition of the Christmas story. I bought a copy of this book for each student in my first and second grade Sunday School class, and they loved it! The Arch Book series is a wonderful evangelism tool. For the price of a commercial greeting card, you can send a Gospel message!

Tell us a little about yourself. I live in Ohio with my husband, two grown kids, and two overgrown cats. I'm an intense worship team singer at Emmanuel Lutheran. My parents, from the Philippines and Hawaii, gave me the joy of rhythm. My newest stories are in God Answers Prayers, Mil. Ed., What I Learned About God While Cooking, and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Health Series-Stress.
What was your motivation behind this project? My motivation came seventeen years ago when I first wrote this poem for a women's event. I reworked it for the Arch series in the hope that kids would enjoy it.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My hope is that readers and listeners will catch the rhythmic wonder of God coming to us in Jesus. Also, that they catch the culture and truth of that first Christmas. In the book you realize Jesus was not a newborn when wise men came to honor Him.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I get inspired by the gospel writer John who wrote down awesome experiences and visions, "which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched, this we proclaim..." (1 John1:1) I love Dicken's and that amazing A Christmas Carol.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: It took seventeen years to get this book, my very first book published. The illustrator, Johanna van der Sterre, added beauty to the text. Know that God makes all things beautiful in His time.
