Publisher's Description

The sermons of Charles Haddon Spurgeon were the pinnacle of preaching in mid-nineteenth-century England. They are still powerful and widely influential today. This five-volume set is a compilation of Spurgeon's best sermons, covering topics from Israel in Egypt and confession of sin to justification by grace and Paul's first prayer. Originally published in ten volumes in 1883, it is now a five volume set with two volumes in each book.

Author Bio

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) served for 30 years at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. It is estimated that during his lifetime he spoke to 10 million people, and he became known as the "Prince of Preachers." His works fill over 60 volumes; and more than a century after his death, his sermons and devotional texts continue to challenge and touch Christians and non-Christians alike with their biblical grounding, eloquent text, and simple encouragement. Among his published books are Lectures to My Students (Hendrickson); The Treasury of David (Hendrickson), a devotional commentary on the Psalms; All of Grace, the first Christian pocket-paperback published in the United States; numerous volumes of topical sermon collections; and the best-selling Morning and Evening.

The obvious negative with these is that the print isn't very good or consistent.. and lots of broken letters. But that's why five hardcovers are $30.

And it's definitely worth overlooking that fact so you can read these amazing sermons! You will never hear sermons preached like this today. I believe if everyone proclaimed this message, the world would hate us a lot more, but we would see God do amazing things through us. Spurgeon refuses to let worldly pressures dictate his preaching. Every Christian should read these sermons. I couldn't recommend this product more!

These books will get a lot of use. Every time I read one of Spurgeon's sermons, I learn something. What a devoted and wonderful man he must have been. Oh, to be blessed with the insight he had. I love this set and highly recommend it to anybody who wishes to draw closer to our Lord. This is an invaluable tool for just that.

The books are nicely done. I think the color is horrible, and the format could be improved; nonetheless, they are an attractive set of books. They are easy to read and will be getting some use!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this purchase. Some of the words are misspelled. The print varies from bold black to faint. Definatly readable though. Each chapter is a sermon.

Besides the great price, I would definatly recommend this volume of books. I'm really enjoying Spurgeons's messages! A man of God! Ive considered purchasing them for my mother and pastor.

Ask a Question

Q: Is this genuine spurgeon or edited? Is this the original Spurgeon, or is it an anemic, edited version devoid of both his theology and rhetoric? For example, Whitaker Publishing (I realize this is Hendrickson) is notorious on gutting Spurgeon of his theology. I don't want a version that revises it into more readable American prose (e.g., "dumbing down").

Yes, this edition is an unedited reprint of the 1883 Sermons of Rev. C.H. Spurgeon of London by Robert Carter & Brothers, New York.

Q: Is this the same content and order as the Baker Books set o 10 volumes?

This is the same five volume set that Baker had published previously.

Each of the five volumes in the set, contains two of the volumes that were previously published in the 10 volume set. Everything would be in the same order as the 10 volume set.

Q: What is the size print in Spurgeon's Sermons 5-vol. set is it standard book print, or small and harder to read for over-60's? can you include sample pages in ad?thank you

According to the publisher, it is intended to be 10 point font. We will add samples and more information to our website shortly after receiving the product.
