My review of Has God Spoken by Hank Hanegraaff...for www.booksneeze.com a divison of Thomas Nelson. Compelling evidence that the Bible is God's Holy Word. Using the memorable acronym MAPS, radio host and Bible scholar Hank Hanegraaff masterfully reveals four proofs that confirm the divine origin of the Bible. M represents the strength of the manuscript itself as many actual fragments have been locatedA stands for the archaeological proofs that have been uncoveredP is for the prophecy that has accurately predicted eventsS represents the scriptural synergy found in the unity, consistency, and harmony of the sixty-six books These clearly presented proofs provide powerful indicators that confirm the trustworthiness and divine nature of Scripture, that God has indeed spoken, and that the Bible is the reliable repository of His words. I found the MAPS study method to be a valuable tool and I now use it as one of my primary methods of bible study when i crack open the word. The bottom line though, is if you believe in God you don't even need proof in the Bible...you just take 2 Timothy 3:16 at face value and go about with your business, through trust and faith...Keep on believing
Hank is a master researcher and his third book in his apologetics series Has God Spoken does not disappoint. Hank tries (and succeeds) to prove that the Bible comes from a divine and not mortal author. By delving into how the books of the bible were passed down, and archeological finds as well as the future predictions within its text; Hank shows that no one person (or group of like-minded deceivers) could have created such a perfectly accurate historical and religious text as the Bible. As an example, Hank holds that the use of prophesy in the Bible proves the authenticity of God's hand in the Bibles creation. Whether it is predictive prophesy that Daniel used to predict the future rulers of the earth or typological prophesy which shows God's subtle use of allegories; the bible has consistently and accurately been able to predict future events. My favorite topic on the use of prophesy is when Hank catalogs all the prophesies that spoke about the Savior, and how each one was fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. As Hank himself attests "the prophecies concerning him are simply so precise that the probabilities of someone fulfilling them by chance do not exist". If any of these prophesies was not satisfied in Jesus then he could not have been the Messiah. Most of these prophesies (like birthplace) could not have been faked. Whether one believes Hanks hypothesis or not this book will get you thinking about the nature of the Bible and how it has survived all these years unaltered and still the most critical text in the Christian faith.
This book was written so that if anyone ever had doubts about God Speaking. His or Her doubts would end here. The Author uses the following to reveal the fact that yes God has indeed spoken:
M = Manuscript
A = Archarologist's
P = Prophetic
S = Scriptural
One thing is for sure the author spent a lot of time in writing this book which is a reflection of how serious He takes God's Written Word "THE BIBLE" . To say that it took years to write this would be an understatment.
However, If you are looking for an easy read this is not. There were many times that I had to use "Chronological Guide To the Bible" along with this book so that I could understand.
It would make a great gift for Pastor Appreciation's Day
In compliance with the Federal Trade Commission I recevied the Book from Book Sneeze a Division of Thomas Nelson Publishing Company.
Have you ever wondered whether or not God REALLY spoke the Bible into being? What types are proofs are there? Can it really be proven? What about all the evidence to the contrary? Using the acronym M-A-P-S in his book Has God Spoken?, Mr. Hanegraaff (also known as the Bible Answer Man) puts forth massive amounts of evidence that yes, God really did speak to us through the Bible.
Here's a sneak peek: the M in M-A-P-S stands for Manuscript C-O-P-I-E-S, each letter broken down into sub chapters such as Copyist Practices, Oral Culture, Papyrus and Parchment, Internal Evidence, External Evidence and Science of Textual Criticism. Mr. Hanegraaff goes in depth in all areas, for instance citing under External Evidence the works of Flavius Josephus (the Jewish history), Cornelius Tacitus (born twelve or so years after Christ's death and known as the "greatest historian of the ancient Roman Empire") and Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus (chief secretary to the Emperor Hadrian, who covered Roman history) to name a few. All of the evidence presented in the book is fascinating proof of the divine inspiration of the Bible.
I accepted Christ as a young child and have never had the problem of accepting as fact that God is real, that He is the author of the Bible. However, it is so much fun and so very interesting to sit and read a book such as this and find evidences that go beyond blind faith. If you are a Christian, you will enjoy the evidence presented. If you are not a Christian and you have a chance to read this book, Mr. Hanegraaff's evidence just might convince you to change your mind! Why not give it a shot?
This is definitely another book I will keep in my personal library for future reference and also for loaning to friends and family.
