So much practical insight from the scriptures for just the everyday healthful Christian life. I have read it again and again as he has helped me so much to battle the lies of the enemy. I did not find it to be a "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps kind of book," but rather a true reminder of the truths in the gospel and the love of Christ. This book was very helpful for me when I was struggling spiritually. I highly recommend it!
Bona'5 Stars Out Of 5"TRUE" Man of God!October 12, 2014Bona'Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The title of this book was deposited into my spirit in 2013. I had NEVER heard of "Spiritual Depression". I Googled the two words and to my "surprise", it was/is the title of the book. If ANYONE would like to know God intimately, lovingly, romantically, sacredly and personal, The Holy Spirit should be included in EVERY aspect of your life. Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones' sermons are based on Scripture and that is what is needed for TRUE Christians and men/women of God. Prayer is very essential in every area of your life, and therefore, the Holy Spirit will lead you in your everyday walk with the Creator/God and you can/will experience knowing God for yourself. Excellent spiritual food for a "hungry" soul and spiritual growth. I recommend reading this book again and again. I have a hunger for knowing God and this book has opened my eyes wider to know TRUE christianity and not "entertainment".

You don't need to be depressed to read this. I have found this book so helpful, personally and as an aid in giving people counsel, that it is on my periodic re-read list. I had lent my original copy and not gotten it back, so ordered a new one. This actually turned out to be good, because I read it with fresh eyes, not relying on my well-marked original.

This is a classic work based on a series of sermons from the Doctor that were given in the in the mid 1950's, and released in 1964, not the '70's. What makes it great is that unlike "self help" books labeled "Christian" that are a syncretistic mix of pop psychology, sprinkled with bible verses, this is the real deal based squarely on the bible. Martyn Lloyd Jones was truly gifted with an ability to apply scripture to everyday life. He remains one of the most gifted bible expositor's ever, long after his death in 1981. I especially love his use of Psalm 42 and David talking to and encouraging himself with God's previous care and the hope God gives him. This is very practical when Satan and even one's own unredeemed flesh (which consists of ones thought life) attempts discouragement. We need to talk to ourselves before we allow ourselves to talk to us. Sounds simple and almost humorous, but such practical wisdom. I would highly recommend this book as I do all of Jones' work. Martyn Lloyd Jones remains a treasure and I thank God for this dear man's life and his enduring ministry that still remains as relevant today as it was many decades ago.
