Publisher's Description

We are enamored with stories about cops, but rarely do we get a chance to walk in the shoes of one while reading about the personal and spiritual battles waged when one is fighting crime. Jim's narrative will pull you into the moment of each crisis. These stories are the material of movies but they happened in real life. Jim will weave his experiences into the truth taught in Scripture. Whether or not you are part of the law enforcement community, you will be entertained by the adventures. Regardless of your relationship with Christ, you will be challenged to do something with the claims made by Jesus. There is engaging action in this book, but the serious purpose is that it will serve as a challenging devotional guide and bring you closer to Christ.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I grew up in Anaheim, California as one of eleven children. I married my high school sweetheart, Jamie Gregg-McNeff. We have three adult children and three grandchildren. I served in the USAF and in law enforcement in Orange County, California for a combined 31 years. I enjoy outdoor recreation, regular exercise, time with my family, and my two German Shepherds.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I had no intention of writing when I retired from law enforcement. However, I could not ignore the daily impressions I received from the Holy Spirit to help other families steer clear of the relational land mines that are present for public safety.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  There is an entertainment value to the book since I use real stories that occurred during my law enforcement career. But the greater purpose is to connect my stories to His story. Without God's grace I would have no story to tell. I learned many lessons the hard way. As a result I have a deep appreciation for my relationship with Jesus.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  My wife and I have a pretty dramatic testimony about a marriage that was dead and buried, but then resurrected because of the great God that we serve. We have shared our testimony publicly on several occasions, and each time it is emotional. Putting our testimony in writing in the context of my career in law enforcement reminded me how destructive sin is, but how constructive placing your faith and trust in Christ will be. Sharing these truths with the world made me feel vulnerable, but at the same time God has granted me confidence in my story because it demonstrates the great stories He can write when we submit to His will and His ways.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Spiritually, my pastors Rick Warren and Doug Fields have been very influential in my life. My professional mentors, Bob Mosley and Paul Sorrell were instrumental in developing my habits and practices in law enforcement. On a personal level, my heroes include my dad, who is deceased, as well as two older brothers, Dave and Jon McNeff. The Christian band, Third Day, continually inspires me with their music.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  There is a lot of hurt that is hidden by most people, but especially law enforcement professionals and their families. The Spirit behind Badge 145 peels back the layers of pain to reveal the glory God has planned for us. The book will speak to anyone seeking greater depths in his or her spiritual journey, regardless of vocation.
