During that time, I have used a couple of dozen video series as curriculum, including others by Ortberg. Soul Keeping is the best of them all. It is thought provoking, challenging, and emotional while leading one to look beneath the surface of their own "outward life" at the soul that ties it all together. Another reviewer mentioned that this series is aimed at the newer Christian. I disagree. I believe the mature Christian will benefit the most from it, though all will find it beneficial to their faith.
Ron5 Stars Out Of 5Soul Keeping - Great SeriesAugust 22, 2014RonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I used this series for a seeker-type group in my neighborhood. In the group were some unchurched, and some with a eastern leaning in their understanding of spiritual truth. This series worked wonderfully well for this, even though it really is a series for the growing Christian. My purpose was to generate spiritual discussion with my neighbors, and all of us were in our 50s and up (or close to 50s). One reason it lent itself for the purposes of my group is because its not overtly evangelistic, yet Ortberg makes himself very vulnerable in talking about the effects of sin in his life, as well as other biblical truth, like grace, gratitude (session 5 is really practical on blessings vs cursing), and suffering. On the other hand, the significance of the cross of Christ is not touched on, and I did some filling in of the gaps on my own as group facilitator. This series was enthusiastically received and kept their interest. As someone who has lead a lot of small groups of different kinds, this is a very well-done series. I also have never encountered an approach quite like this in its focus on our souls. It will give you much to ponder, and apply.
