In America we lack urgency in having real conversations with unbelievers. Why is that? How do we overlook so easily the fact that eternal suffering is ahead for so many people we encounter and yet we say very little to spark a conversation about the Love of Christ.

This approach may be unconventional but here goes..

Do Not read this book if:

    1. You like to stay comfortable in your walk with the Lord.

    2. You like having walls surrounding your heart

    3. You like not being told to share about Jesus daily.

In contrast, Read this book if:

    1. You desire to be broken for those who are suffering here on this earth and who are heading toward eternal suffering.

This is not a light read to just pump you up about witnessing to your co-worker, although it will drive you to that. It is a book that will show you that physical needs and spiritual death is present today and that so many real people are living and suffering and will die and enter into lasting suffering. Its not a pretty picture, its heart-wrenching!

This book was written from a very personal experience in a journal storytelling style. The stories are powerful on their own and they need no eloquent presentation. This book will change you and by the end you are really asking yourself what is my something that needs to change.

There is risk in asking that question. But as John Piper has said so many times, Risk is right.

If you know David Platt, you know he loves the Lord and wants to put "feet" to God's Word! This is not a Bible study book! It's a book about changing your heart, to show God's love to those in remote areas of the world. Their needs are greater than you could possibly imagine like food, simple medicines, schools, clean water and protection from child traffickers! I weap with David and my heart is convicted that I am the "Something needs to Change!!" I need to look and pray to see how I can be the change God called me to be.

In Something Needs to Change, David Platt shares his experience trekking through the Himalayas. He introduces us to the various people he meets along the way and discusses how they directly impacted him and his ministry. As he describes each day of the trip, he shares excerpts from his journal that allows readers to see just how much this experience changed him. It is a very open and honest account. At the end of each chapter, Platt includes reflection questions that allow readers to identify how they can apply these situations to their own life and find ways to create impact around the world.

I really enjoyed this book, although some of the stories were hard to read. It was heartbreaking to think about what people have to deal with every day and the persecution that still exists. It made me stop and think about what impact I could make locally, nationally and globally. I would definitely recommend this book.

I received an advance reader copy from the publisher.

Reading this book was a real life experience. I took the 8 day journey with Jesus and David. So far the experience took me 16 days of in the text over a 48 day timespan and journal entries flowed with Living Water from the King of Kings. The scriptures David supplied on his trip was life intersecting to my core. I experienced tears, vision, healing, miracles, repentance, remembrance, grace, calling & JOY! My life will never be the same. I am going to start a re-read this week because I am ready for round two. I believe," He came to set the masses free!" The experience is still living in me and through me by God's Grace and lovingkindness.

Something Needs to Change, the latest book by New York Times bestselling author David Platt, is written as a memoir, telling the story of Platt's life-changing eight day trek through the Himalayas. Platt describes each day's events in great detail, like his experiences with dire physical and spiritual need, his internal wrestling with his beliefs, and his journal entries about it all. Throughout this journey, he urges the reader to abandon complacency concerning all the urgent needs in this world and to actually do something about them. I highly recommend this book and author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Waterbrook & Multnomah in exchange for an honest review.
