Publisher's Description

Everyone wants their life to count. We all wish we could make a difference in a hurting world. The good news is that we can. Despite our own brokenness (and, in fact, because of it) each of us can be Jesus's hands and feet on Earth, reaching out to others in real and profound ways.

With powerful true stories, illustrations from the life of Christ, and specific activities for readers to engage, DO Something! is a hopeful and practical book that shows how to live out faith in a way that improves people's lives. With transparency and humility, Miles McPherson shares his own shortcomings as a young pastor trying to connect with people in need. Stressing the importance of hurting with people before you can do something for them, McPherson takes readers through the 5 P's of making their lives count: preparation, purpose, pain, power, and passion. By putting into practice the principles found in this book, readers will experience spiritual fulfillment as they see that they can make a real difference in the lives of those around them.

Author Bio

Miles McPherson is senior pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, one of the fastest growing churches in the country, and president of Miles Ahead Ministries. In 1982 McPherson was the first student from the University of New Haven to be named All American and be drafted into the NFL. But two years into his pro career with the San Diego Chargers, McPherson was battling a drug problem and living an immoral lifestyle. In a dramatic turn McPherson gave his life to Christ on April 12, 1984, and stopped using drugs instantly. He has appeared on many national television shows, including Larry King Live, Good Morning America, The O'Reilly Factor, and Fox & Friends. He and his wife have three children and live in San Diego, California.

In the introduction to Do Something!, ex-NFL player Miles McPherson says, “The world needs you. It’s broken.” He then goes through thirty devotional chapters to inspire, inform, and help you, the reader, get in touch with God so you can follow Christ’s command in Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

McPherson uses well-told, real-life stories (all with biblical correlations), and plenty of Scripture to make you feel like the special person God intended you to be. He draws examples from the world of sports, but also from his family experiences, his business dealings, his travels, and his interactions with other folks, both Christians and non-Christians. At the end of each chapter is a challenge to help others, along with a helpful prayer.

Do Something! is a wonderful and practical book that offers useful advice in many areas of life. It focuses on personal discipline, quiet time with the Lord, self-fulfillment, witnessing, and being alert to opportunities to use one’s spiritual gifts. Anyone looking to strengthen faith or get closer to God will be much better off having read this book. – Matt Maine,
