My oldest memory of Jo still brings a warm smile to my face. She sat gracefully in front of the small group of women, who didnt want to break for the summer like the rest of the womens Bible study group had. She read with passion from her prayer journal. I closed my eyes and listened intently, privileged to hear the prayers from Jos heart to her Abba. (Jo loves to call God by that endearing name, best translated as Daddy.) This sweet memory, which is now more than 10 years old, was renewed when I read Soar Unafraid. In fact, reading the vulnerable prayers Jo recorded over the years was my favorite part of Soar Unafraid. No one can conjure up a relationship with God like that. Its built over years and years of intimacy and dependency. You and I are invited to develop that same deep relationship with God, simply by reading Jos precious prayers. Even if you dont have MS, have never been through a divorce, and havent suffered through childhood abuse, Jos amazing story will touch the secret places of your heart. Read Soar Unafraid. You will fall in love with Jo and her precious Abba. Speaker, Author, Worship

I picked up this book, planning to read a few pages before I went to sleep. Two hours later, I had to make myself put it down! What a testimony to God's love, grace, and mercy. On every page, Jo reminds us that regardless of where life takes us, God has a specific plan for us. I just pray I'll be as faithful as she has been when the hard times come.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  In 1977 strange symptoms bombarded me. A year later I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and at that time there was little hope. But God became even more precious to me as I dealt with the disease and an unwanted divorce. Marriage to a man who became emotionally and verbally abusive gave us the choice--run or bond as we dealt with childhood pain together, and we have been married 21 years now. We love life together. A cervical spinal cord injury and other traumas brought opportunities to praise and thank God in all things. Life is full of joy and adventure!

What was your motivation behind this project?  When I began speaking in church services and for women in all types of venues in 1984 I began getting requests for my story in print. Though I had stories in compilations (my first being accepted when I lost my ability to speak and sing for ten months due to an MS attack and I still wanted to tell people about God's love), I eventually felt led to compile my story. I had tried three other times before this and it just wasn't time yet!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Though this is not a "how to" book, I believed from the onset, and have been told by readers that they have learned to grow in their relationship with Christ, as well as develop a never-give-up attitude in any circumstance by reading my story. It is full of journal entries, prayers, and vulnerable story telling.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Since I took literally months to read journal entries from the 1970s on, I was taken through experiences, conversations (which I had journaled, using a counseling technique), pain and joy. I was reminded through my own journey that trusting God in all things makes all the difference in dealing with a multitude of fears. It has served me well this past year!

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Joni Eareckson Tada, Philip Yancey, David Seamands, Brennon Manning, J. I. Packer, Drs. Henry Cloud and Johns Townsend, and more.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Joy escapes even the most painful parts of my memoir Soar Unafraid: Learning to Trust No Matter What. And that is due to the intimate relationship developed through pain that I wouldn't trade for anything! There is something anyone can relate to in my story, even if you don't have an incurable illness. It is not just about difficulties. It is about learning how precious we are to God and how much he loves us and wants to inhabit our lives. A number of men have grown from reading it.
