However, most organs and functions of the body are affected by stress: blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, grinding teeth, even hair loss. Chronic stress affects us physically and psychologically. The author calls this living under red alert. Continuous waves of epinephrine and hydrocortisone supercharge our systems, using up our reserves and leaving us shaky and worn-out. Weight loss or weight gain can be affected. Binge eating or loss of appetite are both unhealthy.
