DLibby1Angel5 Stars Out Of 5Fabulous -- Just the style of Math we were looking for.August 17, 2014DLibby1AngelQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 5While this product is no doubt one of the most expensive math programs available; it provides children with a great understanding of the concepts and definitely achieves strong mental math abilities. We wanted our kids to have a firm foundation and confidence in both their ability and in knowing the whys, as well as the how when it came to solving math problems. Concepts are taught visually and hands-on first, then they progress into concrete and abstract. Every year I search around to see if I should be switching to something else; but I always come back to this product. Skills are taught thoroughly and kids have plenty of practice, especially if you purchase the "Extra Practice" workbook. I find having that is necessary for some chapters, but not all. The book suggests lessons are 45 minutes long and this allows you to do each semester in a year. We teach using Charlotte Mason style and find at 1st, 2nd 3rd grade that the kids retain more and enjoy the process if we do short 15 to 20 minute lessons. We actually get through more of the material this way, surprisingly, than when we tried to do 45 minute classes. Sometimes the kids get through only one of the two semesters in their school year and sometimes they get through both. It depends on the child, your schedule and how things go. The manufacturer has extensive scope and sequence charts that will help you compare it to other programs. you might be considering. It's a challenging and advanced program but the pace is slow to be sure each concept is understood before you move on. The teacher manual is excellent and a must to have. I highly recommend it.
