Because my ministry is all about making wise and godly choices, I especially loved Pam's approach to "simple skills" we all need. She wrote, "The more you think through your choices, the more you train your inner instincts to be healthy and wise. This means as you age, if you follow the path of testing choices, you WILL become wiser and your inner voice will become more trustworthy" (p. 73). In healthy decision-making, she says, "feelings follow decisions. They do not steer them." This is so important in a culture that focuses on feelings rather than facts and biblical faith.

We don't have to make decisions by "instinct," she says. "We have been equipped with the ability to discern a wise course of action in each decision of our lives. We have been given the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), and we can utilize that ability to make effective decisions" (p. 75).

Wisdom is only one of the skills Pam proposes will change our lives and bring us balance and success. Whether it's becoming proactive, decisive, reliable, relational, healthy or productive (the other 6 "simple skills"), Pam's insights are grounded in biblical truth.

In the beginning of this practical book, Pam wrote, "With a few simple skills we can become who God designed us to be and live the life God destined us to live." I'm glad Pam explained how we can become our best selves, by cooperating with the Spirit of God who works in our lives. We are all "in process," and Pam invites us into a bigger adventure with the Lord.

Lots of good information is contained within this book, though most of it was refresher information for me. I thought the book was going to be about how to multi-task more efficiently or get more time out of your day, given that the blurb was targeting all the hats we as women wear. That is NOT what this book is about, though there are a couple tips to that effect incorporated in.

My complaint against this book is not the content, per se. I agree with most of it and believe it is largely spot on. My beef comes from the title and the blurb (which I already touched on). The title "7 Simple Skills for Every Woman" is misleading. None of the skills she talks about are "simple" - they all require diligence, effort, and commitment. That does not mean these are not worthwhile skills, but the expectations for the book and what the book delivers are vastly different.

There were many times that Pam would seem to jump track and be on a different topic with no kind of segue, but it's very possible that in the print version there is a heading that makes this transition clear.

The Kindle version of this book is fraught with formatting errors. I find it embarrassing, and I had nothing to do with publishing it! Some graphics don't display properly (or at all), there are odd line breaks, chapter breaks are hard to recognize, as are headings and subheadings, words are broken apart, there are random changes in font color, and words in a sentence are missing spaces in between them. Now some of this is worse than others and it's not like every paragraph or page is like this, but it's enough to be distracting. Hopefully Harvest fixes these issues.

Because of the aforestated issues in with the title, blurb, and Kindle formatting errors I can only give this book 3 stars. I encourage you to check it out from a library to see if it is something that would be helpful to you. If you see that it is, by all means buy it because you will mark it up.

I received an Kindle edition of this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
