Pettrey adds another exciting link to the Alaskan Courage Series with Silenced! After Kayden McKenna discovers a dead body on a cliff during a climbing expedition, Sheriff Landon Grainger enlists former detective and family friend, Jake Westin, to help solve the mystery of the climber's untimely death. As Kayden lends her climbing expertise to Jake's case, the two begin spending quite a bit of time together- alone. Pettrey expertly presents both the attraction and tension between Jake and Kayden. Jake's feelings for Kayden were first hinted at in Submerged but have steadily risen to the surface in the next two books in the series. In this novel, he can't hide how deeply he cares for her as his protective nature of her continually surfaces as they hunt for the climber's killer. Kayden, on the other hand, has appeared hostile toward Jake since the first book, but Silenced reveals that her harsh outward dealings with him in previous novels simply masked her own deep feelings for him. As the two grow more intimate, they also get closer to finding the climber's murderer and are relieved when the case is solved. However, in an exciting twist, the reader finds that there are actually two mysteries intertwining throughout the plot! And the second one adds multiple layers of danger and excitement to the already adventure-laden story!

I have enjoyed all three of the previous novels in this series, but Silenced is by far my favorite! I adore Jake's fierce protection of Kayden as he quietly keeps his feelings for her hidden beneath the surface. This aspect of their story is so endearing to me because it is the very fierceness of his protection that so transparently displays to the world his very deep love for her! It used to bother me in past novels when Kayden was downright hateful to Jake, but Pettrey reveals the source of Kayden's actions as a carefully constructed veil for her own feelings toward Jake and the health fears she faces. Loved that her "tough-girl" exterior was softened and that she let glimpses of her true feelings for Jake slip through the cracks. Also, the stalker mystery (which to me was the "secondary" plot to Jake and Kayden's love story) was gasp-worthy once I realized the "first" mystery wasn't the real mystery Jake and Kayden were experiencing all along. Filled with suspense, danger, adventure, and of course, romance!

The McKenna family is at it again, having adventures and stopping bad guys. Silenced is about Jake and Kayden. The previous book in the Alaskan Courage Series, Stranded, introduced their story. If you want to read this series, then you need to read in chronological order, it wont make sense if you dont.

There are so many things I like about this book, where do I start? Every relationship that Dani Pettrey writes about is so romantic yet realistic. I love how all of them dont have a love at first sight kind of thing. I think that is so cheesy and not very common in the real world. All of her couples were friends or acquaintances before they fell in love.

Kayden did get on my nerves though with her Im tough, I can do it all by myself but thats just me and it wasnt bad. Im just trying to say something critical about it.

If you love Dani Pettrey, then youll love this book. It follows her style without being the same as all her other books. It has adventure and suspense without being a cop book. You dont see this very often and I would encourage you to give this series a try.

I love this fourth book in the Alaskan Courage series. The McKenna family has been a joy to get to know through these four books. I have come to care for each family member, and though I look forward to the final book, I will be sad to see them go, after Ive finished reading it.

The mystery and suspense is exciting. The plot has many twists and turns, making the book a page-turner. It really held my interest, as the antagonist is quite diabolical. The romantic thread is progressive and satisfying.

I highly recommend you read the whole series in order. Its great!

Silence is the fourth book in the Alaskan Courage Series. This is Kayden and Jakes Story.

When Kayden and Jake take a vacation day to do some rock climbing they discover a dead body wedged into a crevice. When the McKennas begin to investigate, they inadvertently put Kaydens life in danger. As her family rallies around her, Jake steps up and puts his training to use.

This is the book that we find out all about Jake and his past. We discover what drove him to Alaska and why he has carefully hidden his past.

I really enjoyed getting to know Jake and his struggle to come to terms with his past, as well as his growing feelings for Kayden. Kayden, however, I struggled with. From the first book she seemed too hard for my taste, however in reflection I know understand why she was that way, but at the time it still difficult.

One of the things that has stuck with me about this book, wasnt the plot or characters, it was the theme of forgiveness that ran through the entire book. Both Jake and Kayden have issues that they need Gods help to forgive others as well as themselves. I was wonderful to have that unfold throughout the entire book.

Although this book was not my favorite in the series, I found it be as well written and well researched as the previous books. Definitely worth the time to read.
