Ron Benkendorf5 Stars Out Of 5January 23, 2008Ron BenkendorfDr. Schaeffer's treatment of slavery in America is facile and predictable. For a more balanced, insightful analysis consult Dabney and Bledsoe. Otherwise, his overview is deep and penetrating. I'd highly recommend this series to anyone.
Matthew Caes5 Stars Out Of 5December 20, 2007Matthew CaesAwesome! Schaeffer provides a very succinct explanation from the Roman Empire to the present. Even though the film was produced 25+ years ago, it is very relevant for our day. If you are a history "buff" in any way, this is a great find. More importantly, it truly does cause the viewer to think about "how should we then live?" with the key being our relationship to Jesus Christ.
Jerry Peterson5 Stars Out Of 5December 6, 2007Jerry PetersonOne of my favorite teaching series. The DVD version is much more convenient than the older VHS version. Obviously it is shorter from the original book format, but many of its visuals are well done, well chosen and occasionally just brilliantly conceived. Allowing printing of the study guide from the DVD is useful as the older guides were rather bulky. Each viewing of the series shows how well thought out to the appropriate conclusions Dr. Schaeffer's work was and is in describing where society has been and is yet going while denying God's rule and its Christian world view.
Sandra5 Stars Out Of 5October 29, 2007SandraI really enjoyed the overall view of the phases of thinking of western society, Dr Schaeffer is a fountain of knowledge and understanding of the human condition, moving through the phases of culture using a biblical perspective. I could hardly wait to see each session during the days I took to view all the DVDs, the series was very well presented and easy to understand. A good tool for history students too.

The series will give the student a better understanding of what the Word of God actually is.This series is a history of both Christian and secular thinking from the first century through the present day. It answers the question as to how we got to where we are today. Not only in our society's thinking, but how Christian thinking has been influenced as well.I found the included study guide lacking and developed my own. I also found that a glossary of terminology Dr Schaeffer use was necessary. One was necessary for a students better understanding of what was being taught. I developed one.Dr. Schaeffer was a great teacher and had the ability to relay the content of this series so that the average individual could understand it. I highly recommend this series.
